02.05.2025 Tell us something you liked about a recent passage you’ve written.

That i have written anything at all curiously it happened as I was thinking about my contribution to next months German Phantastik Prompts which will be hosted by me if nothing changes, I felt inspired enough to switch open my WIP and just simply wrote and created at least one continuity error I simply marked and wrote on, I didn't counted the words or gave anything about my world building for this scene and it flew, it wasn't much but it didn't felt so easy in months.
"Sadly" I also came up with a SciFi Universe in which every creature is a fluffy cute cat like or similar with an propulsion system called Neow (spoken neeee OW!) because the ships engines make that sound and it's acceleration is measured in Zoomies.
At this point I maybe should go fully over to just spit out random ideas and let others have fun with it...😅

Kira: A scar from her left forehead to the middle of her left cheek, Heterochromia, the eye color in her left eye appears very different more like dark blueish to purpleish or even darker while her right eye is bright blue, natural red hair that she dyed blood red (like fresh blood) she sports short but well maintained body hair that gives her skin a reddish golden hue if light shines around her, her skin has a sicklish greyish to bluisch subnote which is standard for all spacers do to lack of natural UV light exposure.

Arkham: wears pretty much the least possible amount of clothing she can get away with & even cuts/destroys her uniform. In the pilot seat she wears usually only a sort of hot pants & bra, while interacting with the crew she uses a special cardigan she designed. He has something soothing to him, which is probably his personality as father of 3 girls & married man in the military. He took parental leave for every child and usually works 2 weeks, than stays for 2 weeks with his family which makes him a bit tired in this mission and a tiny bit more restless looking.

Trawella, 160 cm, the energy of a zooming cat while fixing things, 100% relaxed turtle energy while not, but open hearted & welcoming body languages, darkest of dark black hair & a fiery red beard. He is the Ghoz'Tarc's Main engineer & usually the cleanest looking person on board, despite using his size to crawl into the deepest reachable parts of the Ghoz'Tarc. His eyes are bright yellow & he sports a bit of a tummy.

If the Person speaks it is distant, calm, like you imagine your grandparents would give you a tip they never gave you*... A mix of warm passion but also cold, despise can swing in any moment. It can be menacing especially if they deliver threats like a collection of historical facts through their helmet. But it feels old somehow, the speach patterns aren't scrambled & point to a Terran/Human biology fitting for the bipedal humanoid form they has. AI: described from the Author/Reader perspective.

A warm benevolent voice, but a bit mechanical at times, if they aren't telling you why you perspective or ideas are flawed, misguided or outright wrong. The voice always come over a sort of speaker system at times invisible hidden in the walls, from your spacesuits internal speakers or over the NIN Port of a person that is connected to the Neural Interface Network so basically inside their head.
It seems a well spoken person, able to communicate in several different languages not only the common "Standards" which implies a sort of AI is used to translate still the voice always seems to be the same. It could be possible that are multiple persons hide behind the setup ...
It can get a sinister subnote at times and the speach patterns aren't always the same nor do they seem to be altered for outsiders...

Describe the way your MCs walk.

One is a spaceship. I don't think it should walk at all. Great now I have a weird animestyle Gundam in mind or a Decepticon from Transformers, who is stuck in a weird transformation in between full blown Roboter and the usual Ghoz'Tarc... Thanks brain, not helpful...

Otherwise: its dependent on the situation the characters are in, usually Kira isn't the gracefully one more the I'm doing an important job stay aside I don't want an argument. Focused but she can be more relaxed too. What comes to mind is that her stance on duty is different than private & her constantly contracting her muscles gives her an unsettling vibe at times. On Spacewalks she is more a force of nature.

Arkham is often a bit floaty do to the fact that she sits most of the time. Wasn't it for Kiras Training "Regime" she probably would stumble & fall more often.

Mondira:"You know Arkham is only slightly older than me, I really find her easy to approach, to be honest, if you get around the fact she is almost naked while working. Can't imagine how it is too have such a high sensitivity that everything non specially made for her just irritates her skin, which is a problem with our uniform. The material is especially designed for several functions and it this functions that make it so bad for her. I mean i have seen her fly the ship in a combat situation & I have seen her steering while being forced to wear a pilot suit...
She is the youngest Flight Commander and the best pilot in the alliance for a reason, as long she can just sit in her seat without the uniform. It's like her whole body was designed to be one with the seat... And nobody thought about better testing it with a pilot suit.

What was the last book you’ve read? Was there anything there you wanted to apply to your writing?

I re-red Sunstone issue 1 by Stjepan Sejic a graphic novel book. Okay Sonnenstein in German. Not gonna lie I jumped on for the NSFW smut but damn this characters...
I feel like one of this man back in my teens who always told you "I read porno magazine XYZ for the articles."
But their is something in his work that sticks and it's the characters. This kinksters that try to live their lives and do their thing that is at least as alluring as his Artworks...

Similar I feel with our our resident participant @art_of_goulwenr his characters have something that is alluring like a sirens call in the darkest foggy night, lost at sea.
Will it be my doom? Who knows if I keep buying book one together with every new release probably yes. 😅🤪

Who is your most unpredictable character?

Anika Johanson, Kira's "big" little sister of her adoptive family.

I couldn't get anything written in my planned timeline setting so I jumped some years earlier in as Anika and Kira just started became A.P.E.-S.S. (Alliance Practical training & Endorsement - Scholarship apprenticeS and yes A.S.S. was also an option but it didn't get the votes A.R.S.E. did but that's another branch & in Terran Standard it doesn't work).

She turned out very differently from everything I had in mind for her so far and has a very vengeful side too... And she doesn't makes it easier for me tbh.😅

Share an inspiration for one of your characters.

J./Jennifer Harvey Gladstone ows her existence to several sources. A female bodybuilding friend.
A date with a muscular lady (not said friend).
The Krogans from Mass Effect & the "stupid" muscle package trope. My goal is to have a character like Private Vasquez meeting Mass Effect 3's James Vega.

My expirience with muscular women are very positive.* I know the trope of hot muscle mommy & J. knows it too. But she is asexual or at least demisexual to a degree that she doesn't mind cuddling naked with close ones but more is simply not in the cards. She is a gentleman if needed a giant on the battlefield & probably the main reason to get holes in your teeth or diabetes** in the early 24. Century.

*night fall flat because of my diabetes & she was so carrying just sweet.

**That's not how diabetes works, trust me bre. I have type 1 for almost 40 years.

Kira:"A not that again, listen we had one self evaluation question already in the last 30 days, you know exactly that no one likes them. Sometimes I wonder if more than one Author worked in this psychological evaluation questions or if Ash just has some broken algorithms..."

A.S.H.L.E.I. could go as voice of Glados, Karr, Hal9000 or similar her Body the Ghoz'Tarc can use holographic technology to disguise itself, so in Theory she could "go" as any real or fictional ship or other vehicle.
Flying Black Pearl sure, Enterprise D a bit smaller maybe, Tardis... Okay that is hard for the surroundings and would produce a lot of data calculation... Ash would probably not move the whole evening to not screw up the holographic "mimicking" of the surroundings so people would probably slap their body against solid "space" if they try to go to the Tardis. That said if the party is big enough to house a 178 meters long space ship... It's probably more than our standard costume party.

Other than injuries, do your characters ever have any health issues?

It comes up occasionally, Kira has to keep an eye on her eating habits. Her stomach is on the brink of "unlearning" how to proceed solid food because she prefers liquid one. She also has a sour left shoulder that plagues her to a degree, stress, work for two and goes through a loss and physical brain injury

Arkham has a sort of anxiety in general about others in the beginning & without Kiras at times "draconic" training she probably would suffer from muscle loss like some other on board.

The Ghoz'Tarc isn't very big & getting around in 1G isn't enough to prevent health issues. So Kira pushes herself & everyone else to different training methods before the shift begins or afterwards.
The doctor's onboard support her in this endeavor however not every day is a good day to train & of course everyone has a story of someone they lost.

If your MC had to hide in their house, where would they hide?

Kira has a special room in her house & some hidden passages. It was ment for her & her sisters as an adventure playground but well that did not go as planned. Since she also uses only a small part of her house everyone who would break into it would have a very scary experience even with modern scanning technologies because she upgraded the house to withstand several hours of attacks as she upgraded it to also function as a shelter for her family & the neighbors in case of an Eltaryn attack.

Arkham would hide in plain sight or creep the hell out of intruders also she loves tinkering with tech so she would probably hide behind a holographic wall.

Ash hides in plain sight the Ghoz'Tarc has a chameleon like ability to become "invisible" + Holographic capabilities & as the AI she basically lives inside the walls.

Have you made up any swears or unique sayings for your characters?

Swexer a short form for sex work exploiter it's used instead of Motherf*****, Son of a B****, A**hole, etc it took a live of its own since it's short, can be yelled or whispered and is gender neutral in that sense that it's plural.

In its origins it calls out the bad behavior of people, that in one way or another do harm (physically, psychological, monetary etc) to people who deliver a vital service in a society, this Egoist behavior is something the Union does not let go unpunished (see yesterdays German Phantastik Prompts for reference about the rule of 3) and if spitting wasn't harshly regulated (contamination risk) it would also involve spitting while cursing.

What the Swex or talking swex also exist and if you just yell SWEX! Everyone can understand that something has gone wrong.

Would your antagonist participate in spring cleaning?

AI: Giving orders and motivational speeches if they would participate in any capacity.

AJ: Only of ordered too or for ritualistic reasons.

Usually all modern households, facilities or ships are cleaned by automatic drones however, cleaning is still a big work giver for a lot of people who just don't want their home cleaned by a drone, some drones are controlled by persons who for one reason or another can't or wan't to attempt personal contact with others but still want to work to bolster their finances.

Do you prefer writing wealthy, middle class, or indigent characters?

I seem to prefer "middle" class to "wealthy" characters but clearly try to depict a social and financial fair society. I guess it stems from the fact, that in our reality, in which we live, I am a poor and because of this a very price/performance to monetary frugal person which results in a similar behavior for my characters, but since they often have more substantial income, reliable, high enough to live relaxed without counting every penny three to four times and other unrealistic stuff like OWNING their homes without extra costs, they simply accumulate more money. At least that's how my roleplay characters work and I guess it pushes through to my story characters as well if they aren't for roleplaying.

A werebear barbarian in DND, as an example, doesn't need money as regular as I do and gets more for its work of fantastic elements.

Lengthy Explanation for a funfact.

I have already planned such a thing years ago as I started my first creative writing attempts as a teen.
It will contain fan fictions as much as my own works/future WIPs/unfinished ideas.
From Star Ryde (the serious project), to Galaxy Glyde (the SciFi Parody), Star Tyde (the SR alternative Universe in which everything is a star cruise/hotel story, Nacht des Mahrs my three times started and 4 times lost project (thanks HDD), Star Ryder another take on the SR universe to fanfictions to Star Trek, Discworld, Mass Effect and kinky shorts, Mastodon toots etc

It will be a collection of all I can gather connected through a blink of an eye.

Later I found Sir Terry Pratchett's A Blink Of The Screen.

Similar enough to make me smile.

Maybe I can one day look upon an equal astonishing creation of phantasy & human understanding.

Both to different parts and it's an symbiotic process.

My characters often have something visual to them but as the story progresses more details come to mind this can change how a character look, this can change how characters interact etc
It's all connected with each other.
As an example my current DND character has gotten a nasty burn in a dungeon, she did not had a healing potion on her and was without a group she now has permanent burn mark on her face and has a big interest in masks since this events, which is why she buys and "collects" masks at any opportunity (she is a rogue thief after all).

29.05.2025 Have you ever doubted you’d finish a draft? If so, what kept you going?

I do right now. May is always hard for me but this May is especially hard. I always struggle to finish projects but this year it's even nastier ... I always come back to Star Ryde in one way or another for years and I always use worldbuilding as a scapegoat or character creation to keep me from just stoping completely, but in the end it's most of the time my stubborness to give up on something. And if I only write 100 words a month I'm still writing...
