Happy to report that @verge is now officially on Mastodon (and verified) ☺️

@Gargron @verge Awesome!  i do have the @verge bot still but inactive..

I could send the followers to the official if accepted ofc

@Gargron @verge Joined in 2017? Does it mean they've became active as of now?

@Gargron @verge Woohoo! 🥳

(Hope they'll drop the automated bot tag)

@Gargron @verge finally the hard hitting journalism we needed in our limetines
@Gargron @verge aaaaaahahhahahahahah !!!
@Gargron @verge I hope to see some manually created content like on Twitter. Not just RSS
@prvrtl @Gargron @verge Their Twitter these days is not manually created. At all. Their Threads is.
@prvrtl @Gargron @verge As per the recent vergecast I believe this is actually based on the wordpress plugin. Not sure what that looks like on their side as far manual content goes.
@Gargron @verge I’ll still keep https://theverge.space running for now 🙃

Follow The Verge via Mastodon/ActivityPub

@zemlanin @Gargron @verge

"This website is not affiliated with The Verge or Vox Media"

@zemlanin @Gargron does it mean you will need to add "follow the real Verge at @verge" to @theverge now?
@kakurady @Gargron @verge I guess, but, probably, worded differently — right now, it looks to me closer to RSS-to-ActivityPub accounts than to Federated Verge Nilay has been talking about for the last year

@zemlanin @kakurady @Gargron @verge

I wonder if this is a first step (them posting more articles in a RSS style) towards going to Wordpress and getting the fediverse set up through that.

I THINK I heard they were moving over to WP from their current CMS, at least.

@garretble @kakurady @Gargron @verge Same

Chorus-to-WP migration was also mentioned in the latest Vergecast, btw

@Gargron @verge I didn't even know you could be verified on this site. 1 elephant trunk mark please. I definitely am myself.

@samofhearts @Gargron @verge

It’s not too hard if you have a site you can use: https://joinmastodon.org/verification

Kind of a “verification by virtue of being known in another place.” For most people it’s “if you have a website, you can verify your mastodon with it.”

@Gargron @verge
Love to see it! Hopefully the start of a movement 💪🤞

What took @The Verge so long?

@Gargron @verge

But automated? Do they have any real people journalists on here?

Where to find Verge staff on Mastodon

Mastodon has emerged as a potential alternative to Twitter under Elon Musk. Here’s a list of Verge staff active on the decentralized social network.

The Verge
@Gargron @verge it’s a good day
@timonus @Gargron @verge It’s weird that it’s not @[email protected] or something though, right?
@_Jordan @Gargron @verge eh, I don't blame them for not wanting to run their own instance I suppose
@Gargron @verge was looking for them just yesterday! Woooo!

@Gargron

Making the @verge now the official PR mouthpiece of @Gargron and @Mastodon

Oh good

Just what we all need

Not that I've even read the Verge once in the last 10 years

@Gargron @verge good job. Own instance would be great though
@Gargron @verge I hope they stop gratuitously trashing Mastodon in their articles.
@Gargron @verge yes!!! felt like as a tech news site it made a lot of sense. 👏
@Gargron @verge @pabloniusmonk then whose posts have I been reading so far?

@Chancerubbage @Gargron @verge if it's "verge" something or other, it was probably an unofficial bot of their Twitter feed. (I follow a few of them IIRC.)

As I understand it, this will be their official verified account. (although it still had the "bot" label last I checked earlier today after the @davidpierce toot.

@pabloniusmonk @Gargron @verge @davidpierce I think in their ‘bio’ it might have said it was only a distribution bot.

I may been told privately too, saying it was only a bot and ‘you can comment on our site’ and I may have nastily replied ‘what ever I replied is for others that might read it HERE, not for registered users of your site. I’m not feeding my email to be resold to every news blog out there for just yet another ‘platform’ to track discussion and be pummeled with notifications.

@Gargron @verge Now we just need to get Vox and Polygon over too!

@Gargron @verge

would love to see their staff using verge dot social accounts.

@Gargron @verge Does Mastodon yet have the feature to follow the Account on a List but filter Accounts posts out of the main feed?

To not drown the main feed in unlimited posting from multiple news-type accounts like this?

@Gargron @verge Okay, getting there with Follows that can be hidden in Lists … Thanks!

https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/30/23938639/mastodon-lists-android-update-news

Mastodon’s latest update makes it easier to follow the news

Mastodon, the decentralized Twitter / X alternative, is adding lists to its Android app. Lists are available as part of the most recent Mastodon for Android update, though it’s not clear when lists will be coming to iOS.

The Verge
@Gargron @verge Nice, Now If every 10th post is about a birdsite we can't stay friends Verge.

@Gargron @Ming @verge Good news.

Wondering how long it’ll take other media groups and individual journalists to actually get on and use #mastodon rather than the toe-dipping disingenuous non-efforts that are so common.

The use (and outright promotion) of oligarchy owned platforms by ostensibly progressive and even self described left wing journalists is disturbing to say the least.

@Gargron @verge will follow if/when they drop the bot tag and start doing some manual/custom posts
@Gargron @verge I hope they also sponsor your hard work. 😇

@Gargron @verge Maybe no one at mastodon is interested but there should be real attempt at attracting accounts from other platforms, not just for mastodon but for the fediverse as a whole.

Until that is done, mastodon will be in constant brink or losing steam and eventually relevance
