Today is an important anniversary.

75 years ago, on April 23, 1951, in Farmville, VA, Barbara Johns led a walkout of her segregated high school to protest the unfair and deplorable conditions of her school.

What?! You don’t know who Barbara Johns was?

She led her walkout more than 4 years before Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus, and before MLK, Jr. embraced nonviolence as the way to equality. After she and her classmates turned the rural town of Farmville upside down . . .

I used to work with a lady who would always take an interest in my music. She’d ask how our jam sessions went and if I’d recorded anything new. But, anytime I had something new, she’d listen to it through, and then tell me that it’s “not her kind of music”.
It always bemused me that she would take such an interest if she didn’t like what I was making.

I decided to write her a song that she would enjoy.

Music was being streamed at work all the time, so I knew what sort of songs she was into. Classic Rock. Australian Pub Rock in particular. She was a single mum in her 50’s, a strong, hard woman, an Aussie battler.

I wrote Proud Woman in a weekend, and recorded it at home. A mate I regularly jam with did the vocals and when it was done, I uploaded it and shared it with her when I got to work.

She liked it.

The experience taught me the value of an audience of one. The focus on writing a song for one person, with the aim that they - that person in particular - enjoys it, gave me a different perspective on the whole creative process.

Please enjoy my song:

As foretold by prophecy, LAPD used their "first responder" drones to spy on No Kings protests and anti-ICE protests: https://theintercept.com/2026/04/20/lapd-skydio-drone-surveillance-no-kings-protest-ice/
LAPD Deployed Drones to Spy on No Kings Protest

Flight records show that Los Angeles police dispatched drones 32 times over last month’s No Kings rally.

With Windows 9x Subsystem for Linux you can run all your favourite Windows and Linux apps side-by-side with a modern Linux kernel running cooperatively with the Windows kernel in ring 0. And unlike modern WSL, no hardware virtualisation is used so even your 486 can run it!

Please enjoy, I think this might be one of my greatest hacks of all time

New blog post: PanVK Extension Sprint - Mesa 26.1 🚀

18 Vulkan extensions landed in PanVK for Mesa 26.1 - the open-source Vulkan driver for Arm Mali GPUs. Covering the Proton stack essentials (DXVK, vkd3d-proton), DDK feature parity, and closing gaps on mesamatrix.

From VK_EXT_conditional_rendering to VK_EXT_nested_command_buffer - each one pulls PanVK closer to "throw a DXVK game at it and it just works."

PanVK Extension Sprint: Mesa 26.1

Last week marks the Mesa 26.1 branch point, and I wanted to take a moment to look back at what happened on the PanVK front. Spoiler: it was a busy one. The landscape PanVK - the Vulkan driver for Arm Mali GPUs (Valhall and newer) - is a collaborative effort. Collabora has been doing incredible work on the compiler backend and the foundational infrastructure. Arm themselves are actively contributing to the open source Mali GPU stack as well, reviewing patches and pushing driver quality forward. On the Igalia side, my focus this cycle was Vulkan extension coverage. The kind of work that doesn’t make for flashy demos but is absolutely critical for real-world application compatibility - especially for things like DXVK.
