We’ve been experimenting with the transparency toolkit from HeyGears to create optically clear models of radiolarians, microscopic single-celled marine organisms that build intricate glass skeletons with stunning geometric complexity.

We’ve been designing and printing radiolarians in transparent resin for a while, but this is the first time we’ve been able to make them truly clear.

Something I posted this morning reminded me that I have these photos I’ve been wanting to scan.
The Space Shuttle Enterprise was on tour, and made a stop at Dulles International in June 1983* (that’s the date on the back of the pics). I was twelve at the time, we got a spot up front. Here’s a few shots I got with my little instamatic camera.

*I had thought it was when the Enterprise was delivered to the Smithsonian, but that was s couple years later.
