This is *brutal*...

"There are no more juniors. There was a funeral for their passing in 2024. Nobody came. The machine does what they do now, but cheaper. Of course, juniors weren't valuable for what they produced, they were valuable for who they would become: the senior engineer who knows where the bodies are buried. We optimized for output, and abolished apprenticeship. A few years from now, we'll wonder where all the seniors are. We shot them. Nobody will remember."

Programming Still Sucks. — Writing

Sorry Peter. — I'm at a birthday party, and while most people here also work in tech, there's always a Guy with a Real Job. You know, a physical job, building some or other thing people need. And this Guy always asks some variant of the same question: aren't you worried AI is taking your job? I glance around and see a few faces turning around toward us, rolling their eyes ever so slightly before returning to their previous conversation. Yes, this question again.

I like how GameStop thinks it has enough money to buy eBay when the nearest GameStop to me was falling apart and looked otherwise about to go out of business until about a month ago when it went out of business.

It was right off one of the busiest, six lane stroads in my city.

Welp, just removed #Chrome from my work laptop. Switched over to @Vivaldi.

I have also just learned about #VSCodium:

"VSCodium is a community-driven, freely-licensed binary distribution of Microsoft’s editor VS Code."

Now that #Microsoft is trying to force copilot bullshit into PR commit messages, it's probably time to jump off of the default #VSCode.

Bonus points: VSCodium, I believe, doesn't phone home a bunch of telemetry and other BS to MS.

Did I spend all day trying to solve, essentially, a single problem in my code?

Yes.

Do I feel good about that because I did it myself and as a result know - in my own brain hole - more about this code, how it works, and how to augment/fix problems with it in the future?

Also Yes.

Why, yes, I have been reading the Bible.
I’m an adult.

Back on my shit*

*my shit being reading the #FFXIV wiki because I'm a big ass nerd.
