@doppelspurinsel Toronto's "solution" to the narrow platforms is to not let passengers access the platform until the train has pulled in and stopped. The fact that this greatly increases dwell time and thus decreases train throughput doesn't seem to have registered with our transit operator.
Toronto's Union station has more platforms than stations like Berlin Hauptbahnhof, but a fraction of the train service. *seufz*
@doppelspurinsel yes there's lots of stuff that can and should be done. We've been waiting 10+ years for it to actually be done though...
My bad on people being let on platforms. I think VIA still doesn't do this, they're doing airline-style "check-in" instead, but that's another story. Narrow platforms is why the GO trains pull in so slowly, though.
Lakeshore East and West are interlined most of the time FWIW
