@britt Thank you for mentioning your other thread. I took a quick read through it but I'm still not seeing your listed behaviour, so maybe they changed it back already? I opened the site in a new incognito window, browsed to LGBTQ, and all were displayed as I would have expected, so fixed! :) ???
In an attempt to reassure you as well, I've also noticed a slowdown of registrations over here too, so it's not just your server.
@cdp1337 my apologies, I replied a few minutes ago with the link I meant to include in my original reply for reference so you didn't have to go digging
It does seem like Mastodon as a whole is seeing a slowdown in registrations, but ours suddenly nearly came to a halt. The thread was created as I was investigating and updated as changes occurred.(also on GitHub)
You'll see it's been adjusted now to show servers with instant account creation listed before servers with manual account creation.
@cdp1337 Apologies, I meant to include this link in my reply, this is the conclusion of the thread:
UPDATE: Eugen has REVERSED this decision as of right now -- the changes are now live. All servers are now listed again -- BUT -- servers with 'instant' sign-ups are now always listed above those with 'manual' sign-ups. I'll take this compromise for now. Thank you to everyone who made noise about this. "I FIGHT FOR THE USERS!" :catjam:
@britt LOL, ok, that explains it. I hit 'Publish' just as this follow up came in.
Good to hear they got their bug fixed quickly.
@cdp1337 Changing the server page default to 'Sign-Up Process: Instant' was an intentional change. After I realized our server (and many others - including ALL of the LGBTQ+ servers) were no longer listed when you landed on the Servers page, I sent over an email to inquire. I received confirmation that it was intentional and then added to my thread as new info became available. I'm glad the decision was reversed.
Just wanted to make sure you knew it wasn't just a bug.

@britt They ..... WOT?!? That seems to me like a gross oversight of UX on their part; such a horrible idea to intentionally hide perfectly valid servers from folks!
As a server operator, thanks for being on the ball and calling them out on their error. Let's hope they use this opportunity as a learning experience.
@cdp1337 I really appreciate you understanding and supporting my decision to be vocal about what happened. It was not an easy decision to make, but I really felt like people should know about such a major change happening on the main website for Mastodon.

@harrybo93 The ones you mention will get a notification. So 64bit and Britt will see mentions/notifications of your reply. It's also visible to everyone browsing her posting's reply and everyone (in their home feeds), who follow both of you (i.e. Britt & you).
So if you just meant 64 and Britt by “everyone“, then I totally misread and you did everything just fine. 😅

We've seen a lot of completely new Mastodon users in the past, so we try to keep an eye out to help where it might be necessary. Not without false-positives, obviously. 😅
