Newspapers' anti-Black framing doesn't just hurt Black people. It hurts white people and Asian people too. It scares people that don't know white US history into making poor decisions.

The US passes laws not based on crime, but based on how white people feel about crime. How white people feel about crime, is largely based on fabrications by news coverage.

US media can invent a crime wave whenever it is convenient. Usually around elections, or after any progressive politician or DA is elected.🤡

**LAUNCH** of #ClimateDiary
Hashtag

I've been thinking for a while that it would be good to have a collective Climate Diary (along the lines of the Sussex Mass Observation project): people from across the world recording and sharing everyday observations, experiences, thoughts, feelings relating to the #ClimateCrisis

I would like to try out simply using a #Hashtag - #ClimateDiary - here on #Mastodon to create this and I would like to invite you all to join in and share widely! 1/4

Photos: Superb Owl Sunday VII

A special Sunday event: a photographic essay celebrating such magnificent birds of prey. These nocturnal hunters hail from Europe, Asia, North America, and South America and are depicted here in photos from recent years.

Our dog Zoe was attacked by neighbor's pack of 3 dogs today. She's out of surgery & resting. Bites punctured and tore her intestine.

So crazy ... my wife was driving our side-by-side b/c Zoe loves to chase it and normally the neighbor dogs just run along the fence with her, but today, they went under the fence & attacked her.

The neighbor is apologetic and will look at making it so the dogs can't get under the fence.

Miss her. Won't get her back for 2-3 days.

I just watched the documentary: Antarctica: A Year on the ice.

What a mesmerizing show! Incredible footage by a master photographer who uses time lapse to show you just how crazy beautiful it is down there.

He spent 10 years getting all this footage. It is worth your 91 minutes of time to watch it. Wow.

Hey @apps small bug I encountered in the android app is that if you've exceeded your sites limit during drafting and you try to copy/paste, it limits you to the limit and not what you've typed.

Love to see how mad the Onion is here. More folks should be this mad about this.

If you want a really solid critique, it's actually here too. They put their *all* into this piece and while it's sarcastic as usual, it really does cover *so many* aspects of how horrible the current trend of "news" in this space has been.

Go read it:

It Is Journalism’s Sacred Duty To Endanger The Lives Of As Many Trans People As Possible

The task of reporting is not a simple one. Each and every day, reporters and editors at publications like The Onion make difficult decisions about which issues should receive attention, knowing that our coverage will influence not only how people think, but also how they act. This responsibility is at the core of an…

A sciency toot just went by celebrating the 43th flight on Mars, and I'm down with that.

The fourty-thirth flight - who would have dreamed of that sort of success a few years ago? ;)

On Wednesday, a group of NYT contributors and orgs like GLAAD send open letters to the NYT about its trans coverage.

On Thursday, the NYT opinion section.

I like to look at you while you work."
