Introduction post

I'm an ecologist, and also an artist living in the #UK. I make jewellery & enjoy other arts & crafts like #painting #drawing #needlefelting and #embroidery. I am a #worldbuilding and #creaturedesign enthusiast.

I'm interested in #botany and #gardening, love growing #orchids and #dahlias, #moths #bats #birds #isopods #crabs #spiders and #wildlife in general, along with #folklore and #mythology , #creepy stuff, #horror and #monsters.

I am dyslexic so please excuse typos.

@Flitterhob Welcome, Monster! May I ask a question? When you say that you're a worldbuilding enthusiast... do you mean you include that in your art? Or that you think it's a cool part of other art? Personally, I'm very drawn to art (literature, film, etc.) with excellent worldbuilding, but I don't make that art myself, so I'm always seeking others in that situation. :)
@PlatinumWarlock hello! I mean both, really! I enjoy the work of others, but I do like to create my own. Mostly written as I can write faster than I can draw but hopefully in the future I can make more time for illustration. It's always such a joy to find something with really deep, well thought out worldbuilding
@Flitterhob Exactly! I agree!
@PlatinumWarlock do you have any faves or recommendations? 👀
@Flitterhob Hmm... well, I see it most in #SciFi and #Fantasy, for obvious reasons. Also #PostApocalyptic fiction because, by definition, characters are (re)building a world. Have you read anything by #SMStirling? Also a huge fan of #Seveneves (#NealStephenson) - both are sort of crossovers, in that they start and/or are based in a familiar world and then head in a world-building direction. Interesting fiction with #magic also appeals. I'll ponder others - same question back to you!
@PlatinumWarlock I've been recommended the Emberverse! Haven't had a chance to read any yet. I've got quite a few favourite settings. I think my current/recent favourites are the podcasts Old Gods of Appalachia & The Magnus Archives. I recently started reading the Temeraire novels by Naomi Novik too, plus Anne Leckie's Ancilliary Justice. And I have a real soft spot for the Avatar world (the animated one not the James Cameron one!)
@Flitterhob Oooh, thanks for the recommendations! (Like I need anything else on my TBR list, but still...) Report back when/if you start the Emberverse series... I'd love to hear what you think.
