DAY 1 GR17 Libramont > Villance (Couchsurfing at #welcometomygarden host Eric's mom 😅). 28 km, +400m. The hike started off pretty boring since I had to make my way through the uninspiring city of Libramont, but it later turned into a nice, easy hike, making use of several other GR trails. Spent the night warm and toasty in front of a wood stove at Eric's mom's house 🔥😅 after getting some fries with Eric. September 2022.

@sam: Thanks for sharing that. It seems you're outside Europe and hence in a part of the world where #WTMG is not yet that known.

Wrt. visitor centers (less bars though) that often was an issue of opening hours for me, as they usually are already closed when I tend to arrive at my destination. Bars are more likely open then, but I'm probably not the person to look for crash space in bars. Connecting over a website seems beneficial then.
(BTW: AT = Appalachian Trail or Austria? 🙂)

@Brownian_motion @MartyCormack @VirginiaHolloway @ascentale #BikeNite A2: Indeed, I discovered #WarmShowers shortly after proposing that question. Seems to be one of the bigger sites for bicycle traveller. It though seems a bit more like Couchsurfing, less for tent tourists. Personally I'm also not keen on sleeping in stranger's flats or getting strangers in my flat to sleep there. Hence I do prefer a camping variant → more privacy-friendly and more COVID-safe. #WTMG was founded during COVID.

Next question is from @xtaran:

Q2. I recently discovered the #slowtravel garden camping website https://welcometomygarden.org/ #WTMG which mostly works on a voluntary basis. It's though only densely filled with spots in Belgium (where it started) and neighbor countries/regions.

Do you know similar projects/sites/apps for sharing/finding (outdoor) sleeping space in other regions, focused on #bikepacking or similar, too?

What's your experience with them so far?

@inliuofjoan #BikeNite A5: I recently learned of the company https://www.slowby.travel/ who seem to take such things into account.

A potential downside of their service is that they seem to only provide individual #bicycletour roadmaps for #Belgium, i.e. if you live there or plan to visit it. Probably because they build on the https://welcometomygarden.org/ garden camping network for people do #slowtravel i.e. cycle or hike.
