GR151/GR17 Poix-St-Hubert > Grupont, 25km, +400m. This might be one of my favourites in the Ardennes. It's an interesting hike, passing by the small hydroelectric scheme of Hydroval, along the Lomme river, the Ice cave and Castle of Mirwart, and through silviculture and more natural forest. I also (hopefully) saved a bat from being squashed on the road. May 2025

GR126 Houyet > Dinant, Belgium, 27km, +400m. A yearly classic, but this time I've missed the 'Halte Royale d'Ardenne' only 2km from the start in Houyet 😱. The 'Halte Royale' is a ruin of a previous train station built for exclusive access to the Royal Family. After Gendron-Celles I cut of 2km of the GR126 and took the GR17 instead. The extra loop to #Furfooz is less interesting and mostly on paved road, unless you also visit the Réserve Naturelle de Furfooz. Close to the beautiful Château de Walzin perched on it's rock, the GR126 turn away from the Lesse river toward the village of Falmignoul. The hike up is less interesting, but after the village you quickly enter the Réserve Naturelle Le Colébi with it's narrow donkey paths through lush forests. Unfortunately I took the wrong turn (when you reach a great viewpoint you're on the wrong trail) which added 2km to my hike. (Next time I'd try the GR17 at this point). I took the alternative GR125/126 next to the Lesse, which gave me a great view on the Château de Freÿr. In Anseremme I decided to skip the last climb to arrive above the Citadelle de Dinant and took the Via Monastica along the Meuse River instead, reducing the trail with 2km so I could catch an earlier train home (after some ice cream and a waffle in #Dinant 🧇🍨😋). Laeken, #Brussels, Belgium. 20km. Sometimes being a 'tourist' in your own city can still make you discover beautiful hidden gems. I did an Adeps round tour with 2 of my gym friends along the parks and forested areas North of Brussels. Absolutely beautiful. April 2025.

Round trail Poix-St-Hubert > Fourneau de Michel. Sentier de solitude. 23km, +500m. Beautiful trail, mostly under tree cover, so ideal for a hot sunny summer day 😎. The trail is mostly on gravel and tarmac, but the forest area and solitude make up for it. June 2023.

Day 3 GR15/GR56 High Fens. Ovifat > Malmedy bus station. 20 km, +400m (with detour up to #Reinhardstein Castle). Last day of my little autumn getaway. Despite the lack of rain, the first part of my hike was quite muddy, so on rainy days better to stay higher up on the ski track 😅. Another day hiking with a lot of variety. Passed through muddy forest paths, past Baheyon Waterfall, Reinhardstein Castle, up on the 'crayes' (calcareous ridges) and to Malmedy. Unfortunately the Robertville Dam was closed, so that's a detour for next time :). October 2022.

Day 2 GR15/GR56 High Fens, part 1/2. Monschau > Ovifat. 26 km, +500m (with detour in the High Fens near Signal de Botrange). I woke up early to enjoy Monschau in the morning before all thd tourists were out. Totally worth it 😊. I also had a nice breakfast in the Backerei in the Altstadt before starting day 2 of my little hiking weekend. October 2022.

DAY 1 GR17 Libramont > Villance (Couchsurfing at #welcometomygarden host Eric's mom 😅). 28 km, +400m. The hike started off pretty boring since I had to make my way through the uninspiring city of Libramont, but it later turned into a nice, easy hike, making use of several other GR trails. Spent the night warm and toasty in front of a wood stove at Eric's mom's house 🔥😅 after getting some fries with Eric. September 2022.

GR57 Sart-Bernard > Andenne (26km, +500m): Easy hike through some typical Ardennes villages. Too much 'civilization', not enough 'nature' to my taste, but at least I went outside today 😄. August 2021.
