Lizenzverwalter Via Licensing Allience wird ungemütlich – was wird da noch kommen in Zukunft?

Da kann man nur hoffen, dass meine #PeerTube-Instanz nach dem Transcoding die Originaldateien nicht weggeworfen hat. Das ist wohl konfigurationsabhängig. Sonst werden beim nötigen Re-Encoding von schlechtem h264 auf VP9 oder AV1 die Videos noch mehr verschlechtert.

Noch nutzt PeerTube h264, aber das könnte womöglich bald zu ungemütlich werden und die Alternativen sind ja da. #YouTube liefert schon lange wann immer möglich #VP9 aus und bringt auch #AV1 ins Spiel.

Now that #Dolby has launched a #patent lawsuit over #AV1, unless I'm mistaken we're about to have a repeat of the #Unisys #GIF patent situation where all #browser⁠s must remove support for widely-used image and video formats, namely AV1, #AVIF, #WebP, #WebM, #VP8, and #VP9.

This is really bad. The only other widely supported video codec is #MPEG-4 (which is also patented) and the only other widely supported lossy image format is #JPEG (which is rather inefficient).

What do we do?

Parece que #PeerTube ha destrozado mi gameplay de #WeirdWest, dejándolo a 30 fotogramas por segundo y sin sonido.

Nada, reprocesaré el fichero original para pasarlo de #AV1 a x264 a baja calidad y con el sonido en AAC en lugar de Opus, a ver si así se lo traga mejor, aunque puede que la cosa quede para mañana.

Manda huevos que sea #YouTube el principal impulsor de los formatos de multimedia libres, y me refiero aquí a #VP9, AV1 y #Opus principalmente.
