🎉 Oh joy! FFmpeg's got 21 zero-days—because who knew video encoding could be so thrilling? 🤦‍♂️ Forget blockbuster releases, let's watch security teams sweat over #vulnerabilities scanners never even dreamed of! 🙃 Meanwhile, ninja #pentesters and dependency firewalls fight off evil code like they're in a cheesy action movie. 🍿👨‍💻

21 Zero-Days in FFmpeg | depthfirst

depthfirst's production autonomous security agent discovered 21 zero-day vulnerabilities in FFmpeg, after intensive security analysis by Google and Anthropic. Moving beyond theoretical analysis, our agent produces concrete, reproducible PoC inputs to confirm its findings at a fraction of the costs ($1k vs. $10k). Several of the findings had been sitting latent for 15 to 20 years. We explored the exploitability of the issues and developed a PoC demonstrating a RCE exploit primitive.

Here is another #Linux question for those of you in #VideoEncoding / #Encoding . ffmpeg is super powerful, but it also has an insane number of parameters we're supposed to memorize even to do some fairly simple tasks. I need something that gives me the level of control ffmpeg has, but with a basic GUI or easier to use parameters at the very least. That is to say I want to be able to select what video codec, quality, which tracks to use, resolution, etc etc without memorizing a whole bunch of crazy command line parameters to do it. Way back in the day I used to do all this stuff with VirtualDub/VirtualDubMod in Windows. Yeah, ok, that's way back... I miss it.

I know there are editors like OpenShot/Shotcut/etc with a limited range of these functions. Is there any just encoder?

In a groundbreaking display of ⚠️absolute absurdity⚠️, someone decided to squeeze 60fps video onto a CGA, the computing equivalent of fitting a Ferrari engine into a tricycle. 🤡 Witness the #GlyphBlaster, a project that proves once and for all that just because you can doesn't mean you should. 🎉

Video Encoding and Decoding with Vulkan Compute Shaders in FFmpeg

In this blog we explore how FFmpeg uses Vulkan Compute to seamlessly accelerate encoding and decoding of even professional-grade video on consumer GPUs — unlocking GPU compute parallelism at scale, without specialized hardware. This approach complements Vulkan Video's fixed-function codec support, extending acceleration to formats and workflows it doesn't cover.

Detecting AV1-encoded videos with Python

I wrote a Python test to find videos that are encoded with AV1, so I can convert them to a codec my iPhone can play.

🤔 Ah, yes, the genius move from #HP and Dell—a grand display of corporate wizardry where they graciously provide you with a Ferrari engine and then disable the turbo. 🚗✨ Who needs efficient video decoding when you can have that sweet, sweet CPU power doing... absolutely nothing? 🙃

So … while this is obviously nice for virtualized gaming, what about video decode/encode acceleration?

Is there a way to give a #Linux guest access to the host #GPU's video codec acceleration without GPU passthrough?

Just like it's possible to pass /dev/dri into a container, can I do a similar thing with a #QEMU / #KVM virtual machine?

Tự động hóa việc nén video cho phim và anime 🎥🎮 | Automating video encoding for movies and anime
