I figured I'd dump this into the void, but has anyone out there successfully done 3d accelerated virtio graphics with a NixOS host?

So … while this is obviously nice for virtualized gaming, what about video decode/encode acceleration?

Is there a way to give a #Linux guest access to the host #GPU's video codec acceleration without GPU passthrough?

Just like it's possible to pass /dev/dri into a container, can I do a similar thing with a #QEMU / #KVM virtual machine?

XRLinux runs at twice the previous speed!

The secret project to upgrade to Qemu 7.2.0 is now in testing.

So far we are getting double the speed on everything including GPU acceleration, boot times and CPU.

es2gears runs at 50fps (compared to 25fps with the Qemu 2.11.1 plugin)

I enabled OpenGL acceleration under VirtIO and video playback is smooth, but now other 2d things have suddenly become very slow, such as switching between windows and closing large windows. Is this a known problem? Or do I need a faster GPU or CPU?

Sooo, does #VirGL support routing the video output of a #vm to a monitor on the same machine? Or is it only to use a #gpu in the vm? I may have my understanding wrong. All I want to do is get #Proxmox to share it's video card (whichever I have two) with a VM so I can use it on a real screen. If I told you how many hours I spent on this already... 😢
So, it appears that virgl acceleration with virt-manager is broken on hosts running X11. But my favorite Desktop Manager doesn't come in Wayland flavor! #X11 #Wayland #virgl #virtio
