Nuova escalation di tensioni in Medio Oriente. Nella serata di sabato 6 giugno l'esercito degli Stati Uniti ha abbattuto due droni d'attacco iraniani che minacciavano le navi mercantili in transito nello Stretto di Hormuz. "Oggi le forze statunitensi in Medio Oriente hanno intercettato e distrutto due droni d'attacco iraniani che rappresentavano una minaccia per il traffico marittimo internazionale nello Stretto di Hormuz", ha comunicato il Comando Centrale degli Stati Uniti (CENTCOM) tramite un post su X, aggiungendo che le truppe americane restano pronte a difendersi da ogni aggressione da parte di Teheran.
Un nuovo scambio di colpi che minaccia il già fragile cessate il fuoco tra Stati Uniti e Iran, mentre Washington conferma di aver concesso ai calciatori iraniani i visti per i Mondiali. Settimane di complessi negoziati, caratterizzati da minacce e recrudescenze di violenza, non sono servite a raggiungere un accordo per porre fine alla guerra e riaprire lo Stretto di Hormuz. Il cessate il fuoco è in vigore dall'8 aprile, ma le tensioni sono tornate a salire ieri quando l'esercito statunitense ha annunciato di aver colpito postazioni radar in Iran e poco dopo le sirene antiaeree hanno suonato in Kuwait e Bahrein – entrambi Paesi che ospitano basi degli Stati Uniti – e sono state udite delle esplosioni. I Guardiani della Rivoluzione hanno detto di aver preso di mira con missili "basi nemiche nella zona" in risposta all'"invasione" statunitense delle isole di Sirik e Qeshm.
Hormuz Strait, US downs another two Iranian drones
A new escalation of tensions in the Middle East. On Saturday, June 6th, the U.S. military shot down two Iranian attack drones threatening commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. “Today, U.S. forces in the Middle East intercepted and destroyed two Iranian attack drones posing a threat to international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz,” said the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) via a post on X, adding that American troops remain ready to defend themselves against any aggression from Tehran.
A new exchange of fire that threatens the already fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran, while Washington confirms it has granted Iranian soccer players visas for the World Cup. Weeks of complex negotiations, characterized by threats and escalating violence, have not succeeded in reaching an agreement to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The ceasefire has been in effect since April 8th, but tensions have risen again yesterday when the U.S. military announced it had struck radar sites in Iran and shortly thereafter air sirens sounded in Kuwait and Bahrain – both countries that host U.S. bases – and explosions were heard. The Revolutionary Guard said it targeted “enemy bases in the area” in response to the U.S. “invasion” of the Sirik and Qeshm islands.
