I PIR hanno, tra l'altro, il beneficio di essere esenti da imposta di successione (non anche dall'imposta di donazione  v. Circ. AdE n. 3/E/2018, § 14). I benefici dei PIR anche sul fronte reddituale sono condizionati al rispetto di un c.d. minumum holding period, ovvero un periodo di detenzione minimo di 5 anni dalla data di sottoscrizione o acquisto.Tuttavia, in caso di decesso del sottoscrittore dei PIR prima del consolidamento del minimum holding period, pur venendo il piano cessato, i redditi prodotti fino all'apertura della successione beneficiano in ogni caso delle agevolazioni normative in quanto il fatto è indipendente dalla volontà del sottoscrittore (§ 12).
