在近期一场与南韩政府官员的会议中，一名三星代表便直接抛出了这个想法，坦言三星电子各部门间的利润差异十分巨大，我们无法让家电等部门的薪酬与半导体部门看齐。事实上，将最赚钱的半导体部门剥离，虽然能从根本上解决集团内部薪酬不平等的争议。但三星官方也承认，这项举动极高机率会导致公司价值受损，并势必会引发集团股东的强烈反弹与抵制。然而，在工会强硬的态度下，这项过去被认为不可能的极端选项，如今已实实在在地被摆上三星高层的谈判桌。
这波劳资危机的导火线，起因于三星存储器业务的亮眼表现让荷包大满，进而带动了其他获利较差的事业群（如家电部门）员工也开始要求提高薪资与奖金。据了解，三星工会目前强烈要求公司发放占年度营业利润15%的奖金，总金额高达约300亿美元。工会更扬言，若诉求未获正面回应，将于5月21日至6月7日期间发动长达18天的大罢工。

A major frustration was the lack of reliable information from further afield. On 6 May, Bath Trades and Labour Council wrote to London requesting copies of the TUC paper 'British Worker' and a reply to an earlier letter: "Why no news?"
