JAILED: ‘Callous predator’ who raped and abused children in Swansea and Scotland caged for 16 years
Alexander Hamill, 68, was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday (March 4) after being convicted of a series of depraved sexual and violent offences.
The court heard how Hamill targeted two boys and two girls during a six-year reign of terror between 1993 and 1999.
His crimes, which included rape, lewd and libidinous practices, and assault, took place in the Swansea area as well as Glasgow and West Lothian.
The “vile” abuser’s past finally caught up with him in January 2022 when victims came forward to report the historic abuse to police.
A major cross-border investigation was launched, with South Wales Police working alongside colleagues in Scotland to bring the predator to justice.
Hamill was eventually arrested in June 2023 and was found guilty of the charges following a trial at Glasgow High Court in February.
Detective Chief Inspector Darren Munogee, of Police Scotland, slammed Hamill as a “callous predator” who is now finally being held accountable for his actions.
“Had it not been for the strength of his victims, his crimes may have gone unpunished,” DCI Munogee said following the sentencing.
“I hope that knowing he is now behind bars will offer them some sort of solace,” he added, praising the courage of those who spoke out.
South Wales Police also welcomed the sentence, thanking the teams whose efforts helped bring the serial child sex offender to justice.
The case has been hailed as a reminder that “time is no barrier” for police when investigating such serious sexual crimes.
