#SkylarWilson: "Repressed #grief is often at the bottom of #overconsumption. There is so much to grieve today. It's only when we hold space for ourselves & others to fully feel the entirety of difficult #emotions that we can experience life from our pure essence again."

Am watching a social commentary video about entitled influencers and #overconsumption.
Makes me wonder how empty and unfulfilled the lives of these people must be, so that they overcompensate it with endless #shopping.

This also reminds me of a quote from the series "Your Friends & Neighbors" ...

Who needs #BioLabs when there's all sorts of #bacteria about to be exposed after thousands of years!

Researchers issue warning after making grim #Antarctic discovery: 'We are only beginning to understand'

Story by Daysia Tolentino, January 29, 2026

Excerpt: "A study published in the journal #Biocontaminant examined the effects of #GlacialMelting on our #WaterSupply.

"#Glaciers serve as reservoirs for #AntibioticResistanceGenes, or #ARGs, and other #microbes. When they are released from the ice, they enter our water systems, posing a major health risk to people downstream.

"Millions of people get their water from glacier-fed rivers and lakes. ARGs are strands of DNA that make bacteria more resistant to drugs. When ARGs in #meltwater make their way into our water supply, they become a global public health risk.

"The study emphasizes the importance of viewing glaciers, rivers, and lakes as being part of a 'glacier continuum.' This means they are an interconnected system rather than separate environments.

Why are melting glaciers concerning?

"From our gas-powered cars to #overconsumption, human activity has contributed to the production of heat-trapping gases that warm the planet. Rising global temperatures have caused glaciers to rapidly melt, causing elevated sea levels and releasing ARGs.

"ARGs from melting glaciers are worrisome because they help facilitate the spread of diseases. This threat is compounded by the fact that our growing #microplastic problem is also helping #AntibioticResistant #bacteria breed. As a result, #medicines are being rendered less effective."

Well, this is interesting.

In my book I promote minimalism as one of the strategies to tackle overconsumption, but I strongly object to the concept of “lifestyle”.

In the Conversation article mentioned below we see that minimalism as a >>lifestyle<< is not very successful in tackling over-consumption.

Actually, that is the point, I promote to change your >>way of living<<, but NOT to adopt another "lifestyle" with all consequential consumption patterns.

The article has references to research about "Possession, feelings of ownership and the endowment effect" and "Loss aversion in a consumption–savings model"

I have eaten...

...enough ham.

I'm not sure that's ever happened before. I love ham, and it's always been beyond my reach to satiate my insatiability for it. My father had to have an extremely low-sodium diet; and so, when I was a kid, ham was a rare, quasi-forbidden treat. As a grown-up with consistently low sodium levels, I can direct my own diet; but ham tends to be expensive. Even when it's available in discounted bulk at the holidays- and when the people around me don't sub in turkey for some nefarious reason- they tend to frown on my hogging more than three-quarters of the pig.

I've been on my own for the last few holidays, which has its low points; but one of the advantages is getting to buy a half, or even a whole, ham at a reasonable price & having it all to myself. I've eaten plenty of those hams, of course; but have always been limited by trivia like digestive capacity or common sense.

But this time, this year, this ham, I feel replete in a way I don't remember having felt before. And it is marvelous.

I don't need any Christmas gifts! I have too much stuff! I'm drowning!

The greatest gift I could get would be a holiday where family and friends come to your home and each unburdens you of one item that's just gathering dust. Just take it away from me! Donate it to charity without me having to make the decision. What a load off my shoulders!

I think this is what we all need.

An antichristmas, if you will.
