Feminist #housing policy, including the demand for #socialization, should not be viewed as an additional adjustment to existing housing policy instruments. Rather, it strives for a structural transformation of social reproduction relations: https://berlinergazette.de/feminist-housing-policy-socializing-living-space-democratizing-care/

Koa’s last family (puppy) outing 🐾

On Wednesday, April 22nd 2026, the day had finally arrived! Both Koa and his brother Pumbaa were going to their new fur-ever homes that day. 🥰 But, before it was time to sign the papers, and to pay the bills 😉, Joke had scheduled a special outing for the pups, and their new owners (as they were needed to support the pups during the outing). We went to a home for the elderly, that's about one kilometer away from where Joke lives. She had a cart with a crate on it, Stefan was young and strong, so he pulled the cart to the care home (and back again). It was a bit of a hike for my mum, but she made it there, and also back again, and she did the best to support the pups and Joke. The pups had a great time, I think most of the elderly loved it, and it was so good to see their joy, and to share in it. ❤️ […]

Small talk surprises: Nine experiments show 'boring' topics feel more enjoyable

The small talk you try to avoid because you think it will be boring may actually be more enjoyable than you think, and good for you as well, according to research published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

As If Designed!

Installing What Blooms in Silence explored what happens inside one person when the protocol runs unchecked. This series examines the architecture that installs the protocol in the first place. The sorting begins before the first word. Blue onesie. Truck, not doll. A room painted and furnished along a template the child never saw. The mobile above the crib: rockets, not butterflies. The first blanket: cars, not flowers. None of this determines who the child becomes. It determines the […]

Realizing Democracy: Why We Need to Switch Off the Autopilot and Take Control · BG · berlinergazette.de · EN|DE

We must defend democracy, not as it currently exists, but by making it a reality. As long as the economy remains outside the realm of democratic control, democracy is intertwined with a destructive, colonial economic system that threatens our existence on this planet. In his contribution to the “Deep Democracy” series, Lukas Warning argues, that no socio-ecological transformation can occur unless the restructuring of the economy is subject to collective control. A plea for realizing democracy through socialization.

“Recommending people to switch to ‘European tech’ tends to obfuscate the uncomfortable truth that the corporations at home are bound by the same dynamics of capitalism like their US counterparts. […] I would love to see messages and campaigns that combine tips for less terrible alternatives with systemic critique and calls for substantial action. […] If a critique of capitalism and a call to engage in thinking about and moving towards alternatives is not part of a campaign about ‘digital sovereignty’ then such a campaign is a trap that sells us freedom in the form of a larger cage.”

A larger cage: about the ongoing calls for "digital sovereignty"

Calls for "digital sovereignty" are still everywhere. They are a central narrative of contemporary European economic policies, they serve as powerful justifications for corporations to call for subsidies and they are also omnipresent among progressive digital policy NGOs and activists. Structural Integrity

This book «Don't talk about politics» already recommanded by #MichaelBurns seems to be an absolute read, if we believe his discussion with the author #SarahSteinLubrano. One basic tennet sticking with me is the claim that #reason, #facts and #debates almost never change people's mind on politic. What do are changes within their local social environment, and this happens through mostly #afk #socialization. #Digital tools can help boost it, but they rarely create it.
