I acquired a small collection of salt-free seasonings. I'm thankful that they are available, but they are still... not that great. I wish more companies made low-sodium or salt-free products. Buying sauces, dressings, even canned tunas are impossible sometimes.

Research shows a strong correlation between high #salt intake, #obesity, & #highbloodpressure, the latter two being significant risks for #heartattack. The current guideline for adults is 2,300 mg daily, but most people consume much more than this.
Some #processedfoods, ready #meals, #snacks, & #bread, are quite high in #sodium. People trying to reduce their sodium intake should avoid packaged food or look for #lowsodium options, #freshfood when possible, & use #spices to add #flavor.
As I've been doing strict no-salt, low-sodium cooking for 4 months now, and making almost everything from basic fresh ingredients at home, I realize that I don't need recipes specifically marked "low sodium," I just need to have the right no-salt ingredients and when it calls for salt I just leave it out. I'm making my own chicken stock, spaghetti and pizza sauce, salad dressing, spice mixtures, cinnamon rolls and other yeast-based things, etc. Anything that I buy that does have sodium needs to have preferably around 50mg or less per serving, although I will go up to around 100mg per serving. Otherwise, I just don't buy whatever it is, and try to make my own version. Overall I'm eating around 1g of sodium per day, mostly from things like dairy and the cumulative addition of things that have a little bit of sodium. My first morning blood pressure readings nowadays are typically in the 120s over 60s. I'm still taking bp meds but hoping in future that I'll ba able to take less of those. Also doing a lot of exercise makes a big difference, lowering bp ~10pts x 24hrs. #LowSodium #food #hypertension
Going to try making my own no-salt hot sauce using this recipe, so I can make no salt buffalo wings (recipe also on same site). #lowSodium #cooking https://lowsorecipes.com/low-sodium-hot-sauce-recipe/

10 weeks on strict low sodium diet. BP is significantly improved. Today I cheated at lunch and had a weisswurst with curry ketchup, a 500mg sodium blast. I'll still be below the recommended sodium limit for today but I haven't had anything with that much sodium in it in over 2 months. It was divine of course. #lowsodium #food
Since cutting out salt I'm doing more of cooking from scratch. Today I tried making great northern beans (from dry beans). Time consuming. In the end I froze a bunch for future use, and made a soup with mirepoix, beans, and herbs. Using low sodium chicken stock the result had almost no salt and was delicious. #LowSodium #cooking

Multiple dietary restrictions (on top of other factors) can really suck sometimes. I'm stalling out on making myself some food right now because even though I'm hungry, I don't have a huge variety of options and I'm getting tired of the same old same old. But even more, there are things I just miss.
