I've been using #facebook #marketplace for years without issue.

But for some reason, they recently flagged and unlisted one of my listing.

This was supposed to be the last item to sell before deleting my facebook account for good.

But now, they are asking for ID verification because of unusual activity.

Whatever that means.

I'm obviously not going to verify.

It's actually so frustrating. It makes me mad.

My kids have participated in the John Locke Essay Competition for several years. So I was surprised this year when the JLEC suddenly asked me to verify my identity (as a minor's guardian) by letting them scan my face and government ID.

Sorry, no. You never needed it before; you don't need it now. No way am I letting my face and ID spread any further than it absolutely has to online.

Did anyone else notice that the hmrc web process for getting a tex refund in the UK now has extra "security" requirements including a pathway that requires a biometric face scan.

Just a few years ago all I needed to do was ring them up, confirm basic details over the phone, and they'd do the refund.
