Ok, I've successfully containerised and deployed a test #dotnet core app to this industrial #iot gateway sbc ... my reward is that I'm now allowed to go out and play, knowing I'm one step further to the goal. At least my pipeline seems happy now.
I just need to migrate my c# #MQTT->#MySql database server code from my #raspberrypi to this #IMX8 box, but I think that part should be frictionless, so... going out time it is :)
@ken_fallon @Fairphone
That's probably the only pain point I have: Fairphone is using Qualcomms Snapgragon. They are know for not being supportive for older chips (that's why Google wants to move away from them) and they are known for their blobs and their closed design. Still probably better than the MediaThek CPUs in cheaper phones. But longterm, I would wish for something like a fair #librem5 with an #iMX8 #NXP chip and at the same time with decentralized and sustainable supply-chains.

@Angle if you can, get a #purism #librem5 - it's much more advanced than a #pinephone. And I like Purism's processor: #iMX8 by #NXP which is long lasting by design and very open in terms of drivers and free software.
I also like Purism's offering of a smartphone made in US to have alternative supply chains.

Alternatively if you live outside US, get a refurbished #Fairphone 2, they officially(!) support and maintain #lineageOS . Or even easier, get a Fairphone 3 by the #efoundation.

PS f*ck Samsung, never very transparent in their supply chains, their devices is bloated with proprietary crap, very slow in providing Android updates(if any at all), they don't provide repair documentation, and they give a shit about toxic chemicals in their products (same for Mi,oppo, vivo, xiamo, huawei,Amazon) https://pad.hacc.space/green-hardware-ranking?view#Smartphones

@swiley fully agree! Couple of years ago I read an interesting article:
https://www.fsf.org/resources/hw/single-board-computers
Based on this I bought an UDOO DUAL (#NXP imx6). Now, I'm thinking of something new, which runs #Kodi at 4k. Do you think #imx8 is a good choice? It's used in #purism #librem5 and in an @olimex board.
Or in the meanwhile, are there some new players, which respect freedom?
Is Broadcom ( #RaspberryPi 4) a better alternative to Qualcomm?

@olimex Great to hear that you work on an #imx8 like #purism #librem5 ! I would love to read more about your experience with that in comparison to Allwinner especially regarding free software. Is this #fsf article still up to date or do we see good improvements somewhere? https://www.fsf.org/resources/hw/single-board-computers
