Our family lost a dear member on Wednesday. She had just turned 48 in August. She was my wife's niece.

A 2 1/5 year fight against colon cancer--I don't know the specifics, but she and her family weren't about sharing every detail of the process along the way.

My gut tells me she stopped treatments.

She was a teacher, a mother of twin girls who were hard won, as her husband had severe kidney disease when they were first married. Infact, her mother donated one of her's to him.

She was a high school Spanish teacher, very smart and talented at teaching.

It's a huge loss to our family.

Her cancer was not found early enough.

GET YOURSELF CHECKED.

Know your #BladderCancer #RiskFactors!
It's not always clear what causes bladder cancer & some people (LIKE ME!) can be diagnosed without having had exposure to any of the listed causes:
~Smoking & other tobacco
~Exposure to chemicals, especially at work
~Past radiation exposure
~Chronic bladder inflammation
~Parasitic infections
Let's stay informed & vigilant together! #Unsure? #GetChecked!

One of the obstacles to timely diagnosis of #bladdercancer is related to the symptoms. Both symptoms and how people respond to them can vary, especially as some of the symptoms are not immediately seen as linked to bladder cancer. The discovery of blood in the urine, painful urination, and irregular urination can all be mistaken for other conditions, causing bladder cancer to be overlooked.

Had my yearly appointment today to get my prostate checked. Not the normal valentine day but needs must ๐Ÿ˜Š.

On a serious note, if you have any worries or notice something that isnโ€™t normal, get yourself to the Doctor. Donโ€™t wait until it could be too late.

A good friend of mine (same age) just a couple of weeks ago got diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer which has spread into some of his bones ๐Ÿ˜” #getchecked #cancer #BeAwareOfYourBody

Annnnnd... this is why you get checked. I'm thankful that I got my first colonoscopy Monday and thankful the precancerous polyps were removed in time. I had no symptoms. If you're 45+, get checked. It is fast, it is easy, and it could save your life!

I spent National Weatherperson's Day (and my day off) getting my first colonoscopy... because I know how to party.

A couple of polyps were removed, and I'm waiting on results, but it seemed to go well. I lost some chest hair to the heart monitor electrodes. ๐Ÿ˜„ Get yourself checked... it is easy and important!
