Sure, society is collapsing due to bad education, but if teaching doesn't pay enough, we'll never have proper education ever again. #education #teacher #teaching #librarian #gardening #gardener #library #activism #anticapitalism #EatTheRich #FeedThePoor #anarchism #socialism
We had our first snowfall this week, and as far as this Old Fart's concerned, "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH." I'm ready for spring. Central Pennsylvania. #garden #gardening #gardener #pennsylvaniagarden #pennsylvaniagardens #nature #snow #snowfall #centralpennsylvania #eastcoast

Hey just a friendly reminder since folk are doing flu and covid vax rn to not forget about TDaP! Many places recommend a fresh boost if you have a tetanus exposure and its been at least five years since your last one, and it should be boosted every 10 years regardless. While people associate tetanus with rusty nails and barb wire fencing, it lives in the soil. So if you play in the dirt (looking at cavers, gardeners, outdoorsy folk in general) you may be due sooner than you think. Folk like us often have abrasions or cuts on our hands from doing things, and then shove our hands into dirt and mud. Keep that in mind! Plus it seems like every other winter there is a new whooping cough outbreak and thats the P part of TDaP so its an easy one to forget about but a good one to stay up on.

Now that you are protected, go flip some rocks! (And make sure you gently put them back!)

@sunguramy I'm outdoorsy and yet where I live (Quebec) they stopped offering tetanus boosters to any adults under 50. 🙃 It's been at least 20 years since my last one I think? I should probably just pay out of pocket... But as always, I'm deeply frustrated at how much preventative healthcare is cut by a short-sighted government intent on pennypinching.
@sunguramy I am a summer barefeet walker. Tetanus freshups are essential for that.

Yep, just got a booster for TDaP myself. Got stung by a yellow jacket while cleaning some brush. Insect bites can be Tetanus vectors also, not just rusty nails. It isn’t the rust or the nail that carries Tetanus, it is the soil.

@BR549 I hadn’t heard of that before! That’s another good reason to be thankful for the booster I had a few years back.
