There are many reasons why #decentralization is far better than functional division, centralized steering and command&control. An often underestimated reason why #federative, decentralized organization is far superior to command-and-control is that, here, top managers can do the job they are supposed to do.

Companies should not be #flatter: In "flat", the logic of top-down/bottom-up and hierarchical #steering is preserved.
Instead, organizations must become #decentralized & #federative, in order to counter market complexity with internal complexity, effectively! (Which is why #MatrixStructures, business unit structures, #AgileScaling or the #SpotifyModel got it all wrong.)

Most managers and business leaders aim to make their organizations flatter. They try to reduce middle management, to skim the amount of hierarchical layers, or they scrap internal bureaucracy in order to achieve more efficiency, more effectiveness, and more enterprise agility.
