Companies should not be #flatter: In "flat", the logic of top-down/bottom-up and hierarchical #steering is preserved.
Instead, organizations must become #decentralized & #federative, in order to counter market complexity with internal complexity, effectively! (Which is why #MatrixStructures, business unit structures, #AgileScaling or the #SpotifyModel got it all wrong.)

Most managers and business leaders aim to make their organizations flatter. They try to reduce middle management, to skim the amount of hierarchical layers, or they scrap internal bureaucracy in order to achieve more efficiency, more effectiveness, and more enterprise agility.

The names of organizational tools change all the time. Worse: #ZombieTools get re-launched under new names:

Horrific #MbO got rebranded as #OKRs, for instance.

Committees and soviet-style technocracy got remade into #sociocracy and #holacracy.

The abominable #MatrixStructures got relaunched under the disguise of #SpotifyModel, #SAFe and other #scalingframeworks like #unifx.

It is understandable that people get mesmerized by tools. But remember:
