#ICE agents have been turning up in cars around Somali-owned businesses and schools that teach children from immigrant backgrounds. Rightwing so-called “influencers”, including leaders at #TurningPointUSA, have followed suit.

Since then, Somali-owned businesses have struggled to attract customers and schools have closed due to low attendance fueled by the presence of federal agents and anti- #immigrant provocateurs.

Today, the #Somali community in #Columbus, which numbers around 60,000 people, is still reeling from the fallout.

The moment 19-year-old Emely Agustin spotted the group of masked #immigration agents tackling a woman face down on the pavement, her heart dropped.

She saw the woman’s red jacket.

“Oh my fucking God. That’s my mom!” she screamed.

It was the morning of 5 November in Cottage Grove, #Oregon, and masked officers with #ICE had dragged Juanita Avila out of her van. The agents pinned her down as she cried out for her daughter, who started filming. Juanita, a legal permanent resident, had her green card in her pocket, but officers handcuffed and detained her.

After nearly three months, the largest anti-immigrant operation in #US history has officially “ended” — beaten back by a massive, sustained, and well-organized resistance involving hundreds of thousands throughout the state of Minnesota and across the country.

At its peak, the surge involved 3,000 federal agents from #ICE and the Border Patrol — a 2,000% increase over the normal deployment in the state, and more than twice the size of the combined police forces in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, which includes #Minneapolis and St. Paul.

These agents have functioned as a hostile paramilitary force to carry out “retribution” against Minnesota and the #immigrant communities that #Trump calls “garbage” and “animals” who have “destroyed #Minnesota.”

Minnesotans Keep the Heat on Despite ICE ‘Drawdown’

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, February 19, 2026 — After nearly three months, the largest anti-immigrant operation in U.S. history has officially "ended” — beaten back by a massive, sustained, and well-organized resistance involving hundreds of thousands throughout the state of Minnesota and across the country. The fight for immigrant rights is at the center of turning the tide, of winning workers to the understanding that “an injury to one is an injury to all.” Convincing rank-and-file workers to take up the campaign for legalization of their immigrant brothers and sisters is part of pulling together the forces needed to fight for better working conditions and democratic rights for all. The success of the fight in Minnesota, which has drawn tens of thousands of working people, youth, and others into action — many of them for the very first time, is an example of where we need to begin.

The Department of Homeland Security (#DHS) is expanding its efforts to identify Americans who oppose #ICE by sending tech companies legal requests for the names, email addresses, telephone numbers and other identifying data behind social media accounts that track or criticize the agency.

In recent months, #Google, #Reddit, #Discord and #Meta, which owns #Facebook and #Instagram, have received hundreds of administrative subpoenas from the DHS, according to four government officials and tech employees privy to the requests.

When #AnaliliaMejia, the former political director of #BernieSanders’ 2020 presidential campaign, held town halls during her recent congressional primary race in #NewJersey, she’d invite people to stay afterward for a training on nonviolent resistance to #ICE. Voters, she told me, are desperate “to understand how rising authoritarianism functions, how it’s moved in other countries, how we can best resist it through nonviolence, noncompliance and education.” Running in a special #election to fill the seat formerly held by New Jersey’s new governor, Mikie Sherrill, Mejia was determined to do “more than just traditional politics,” she said.

...She called for ICE to be abolished, not just reformed.

Nearly 30,000 Minnesotans Trained to Monitor ICE Occupation

Federal Gov’t Tries to Defuse Resistance with Cosmetic Changes. This is an article that first appeared on Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) News. It describes an explosion in the number of trained volunteer observers — now nearly 30,000 across Minnesota — who monitor and record the activities of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol agents. This registers the breadth of popular resistance to the terror by federal thugs deployed by the Trump administration to crack down on immigrant workers and undermine everyone’s democratic rights in that state. This activity is coupled with mass protests that have included rallies by tens of thousands and walkouts by high school students after federal goons murdered in cold blood two of these volunteer observers — U.S. citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti. In response, the Trump administration is trying to diffuse the growing resistance through cosmetic changes.

In #Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as the surrounding suburbs, tens of thousands of #immigrant families are relying on churches and mutual aid for food and financial support. People have not left their homes for weeks. Local schools have reverted to Covid-era online measures to support immigrant students too terrified to come to class. Those students who still attend in person are transported by #US-born neighbors and family friends. Campuses at all grade levels are patrolled by volunteers in fluorescent vests, an effort aimed at deterring federal agents’ practice of targeting parent pick-up and drop-off sites.
