Leaving federal service. When to come back and how to spot a toxic fed agency?
I am resigning from my DOD IC agency that is located in Ft. Meade, Maryland (yes, that one). I have less than two years of service and the job just wasn’t working out. I am not from the DMV area and relocated for this job and the culture at this DOD IC agency was toxic to say the least.I am a little sad that it didn’t work out the way I thought it would. My security processing took forever, I relocated for the position and now I am leaving after less than two years. The IC was definitely not what I thought it would be- that job attracts pretentious and stuck up people who are also classist. I’ve never experienced anything like it before. Like I said, I’m not from the DMV area and I was treated like an outcast from get start and never really fit in.Are all federal positions this toxic? I have never been treated so poorly in a professional job in my entire life and I’ve worked local and city governments prior to this job with the Feds. My department was known for its high turnover and people were leaving in droves. I am just disappointed as I thought the IC was different but at the end of the day, it was just another job.I’m going back to my previous field with the state government. I’m excited but a part of me is grieving this job. I guess I’m looking for reassurance that I am making the right decision. Also which agencies are not known for its toxicity and pretentiousness. Something about this agency attracted the weirdest stuck up backstabbing people I’ve ever met.
