Bolivian Government Charges Labor Leader With Terrorism as Police Crack Down on Protests | Common Dreams

Bolivia's government is trying to silence mass protests by arresting labor and grassroots leaders. Indigenous communities, miners, peasants, and teachers are demanding change. Will the government listen to the people or continue with repression?

Common Dreams

Bolivia’s President Rodrigo Paz faces a deepening crisis as widespread protests and #blockades leave the political capital under siege less than six months after he took office. Two weeks of road closures — spearheaded by the Bolivian Workers’ Central, COB, peasant unions and miners — have emptied markets in La Paz and depleted vital hospital oxygen reserves.

[a #video about #Cuba from the #news collective #BellyOfTheBeast]

Vic Mensa came to Cuba — but not as a performer. The Chicago rapper arrived as part of the #NuestraAméricaConvoy, an international solidarity mission bringing humanitarian aid to an island under one of the longest economic #blockades in modern history.

“From a #US perspective, the pain of the world is often out of sight, out of mind,” he said in an interview with BotB.. Vic came to Cuba to see the impact of US policy firsthand.

Cuba didn't just move him politically. It moved him personally, as a #Black man, as a father, as someone who carries both America and #Africa inside him.

Walking deeper into Old Havana, he kept seeing faces that looked like home.

“What I like the most about this experience is seeing that there are Black people on this planet who can't be broken,” he said.

Global Unions call for a permanent and sustainable ceasefire in the Middle East

The undersigned Global Unions (CGU), including the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), call for a permanent and sustainable ceasefire across the Middle East and an immediate end to the relentless cycle of war and militarism that continues to exact a devastating toll on civilians, workers and entire communities.

As much as dueling #blockades is stupid and destructive, it is also completely unsustainable for #Asia, and particularly the world's two largest countries: #China and #India. End of May the world starts to shut down as nobody in the world can make complex tech or grow food because all supply chains break. Countries that depend on food imports begin famine. How the cascade of unintended consequences plays out after that, that is the actual stuff of full conflagration world wars. Now with #nukes.
