I get to help choose a social chat app for an online computer science education conference. We'd want something that's:

* Free (or at least inexpensive)
* Easy for new users
* Accessible
* Can be used by participants in all countries
* Can handle hundreds of people in the same "room"
* Makes it easy for people to go off into (and find) smaller rooms
* Should probably support audio and/or video chat (although we'll already have Zoom)

Suggestions?

Hey #AskFedi I've got a question. I just got data after years, but it's a small plan. Are there any browsers out there (not chrome) that can reduce the amount of data used from websites? Like, granularly block images or whatever? thanks.

Hey all, Windows 11 question.

Is there a good weather widget that is free, minimally invasive, (telemetry, etc.) preferably FOSS, and can show multiple cities as a bonus?

I'm having to use Win11 for work, so I might as well make the most of it. Also the requirement of "free." I'm not spending money on my work PC. I have the local weather with the installed by default MSN weather, but I like to see how it is where my friends live too.

so i have this chaos.social account and a pixelfeld.social account as well (@[email protected]) which i created before i learned about the fact that it was more or less the same... i'm wondering if i should only post photographs on the pixelfeld account and boost them here or keep on copy/paste the same stuff on both accounts.
any advice?
[obviously i'm going to post the exact same stuff, albeit shuffled on the *other* account]

I read this paperback called like, "The Rabbits and the Prodigal Hare". Hares as country lord intellectual elite conservatives, and rabbits as hive minded city dwellers who had thick lower class city accents if I recall. A young hare goes on a journey and discovers the evil city rabbits were going to make war on the noble traditional country hares. definitely thinly veiled political writing. 100% it was British.

I can't find any evidence that this book ever existed.

is it possible to mute a thread? just one thread, not the whole account

Does anybody have a favorite introductory textbook (or better yet, open educational resource) on data visualization and (very light!) statistics? This would be for an undergraduate introduction to data science course with no prerequisites.

Language neutral > Python >> multiple languages >> R

(I'll be using Python and have other resources for that.)
