So, if anyone is having #StickerShock from #AncestryCom price increases, I would advise downloading your GEDCOM file, then find another service. I would also advise downloading any photos and important records as well. Making people pay just to preserve their trees is extortion, imho. I have links to Windows software, but if anyone knows of a free Mac OS GEDCOM editor, please let me know. Most of the Mac ones seem to be paid software.

GEDCOM FAQ
When you're on Ancestry, do you ever:
* Swear that someone else *must* have changed your tree (even though you know that's not possible)?
* Think that people are missing from your tree or that they "somehow" got disconnected from other people in your tree?
* Accept Hints from other people's trees, or maybe you used to do so, early on?
There's a good chance you have duplicates in your tree, and you might not even realize it.
A lot of Genealogists have been having problems with a glitch in Ancestry, where it creates duplicates of people already in their trees. Here's how to fix the problem now, in the easiest way possible, and how to avoid it in the future.
Do NOT delete the duplicates! This can mess up relationships in your tree, and cause you to lose sources & hint matches. Instead, try this…

The Ancestry All Access Family Plan is only cheaper than individual plans if you have 3 or more family members that use it consistently.
This past Thanksgiving I got a 12-month All Access gift membership for $260. That's $21.67 per month.
The All Access Family Plan costs $50 per month for up to 5 people.
#AncestryCom has finally begun using #2fa now. I can't speak for #23AndMe because I don't have an account there at the moment.
We do know that all of the major #Genealogy websites ( #Ancestry, #FamilyTreeMaker, and so on) have had USER ACCOUNT information (such as logins and user identifying data) breached in the past. It was only a matter of time before the hackers came after the DNA results, imo.

My beloved bride, Jennifer, has been poking around on ancestry.com and she found something in my family tree that is freaking awesome.
If the information is accurate, she has a branch of my father’s family tree going back to the American Revolution in the 1770’s. One family was living in White Plains, New York and at some point their family home was used as a headquarters for none other than George “Father of Our Country” Washington.
Ho… ly… shit.
Yeah, that’s right. Me and President Washington are old family friends. No big deal, really.
My wife may also have tracked a branch of my family tree going all the way back to the 15th century. Again, no big deal*.
*That is sarcasm. It is totally a big deal. It is an epically big deal.

Actually, #Blackstone bought #AncestryCom back in 2020. The latest news on the subject is:
" #Blackstone Inc. defeated a proposed class action alleging that its $4.7 billion acquisition of Ancestry.com resulted in the disclosure of protected genetic information of #Ancestry users, in violation of the #IllinoisGeneticInformationPrivacyAct." [Bloomberg Law News, 01 May 2023]
They originally tried to leverage that data when #Covid first hit.
