It struck me how something so simple – wood, coins and powder – could hold so much joy

Good morning tooting friends. It is a beautiful morning outside albeit a cool one again. It was only about 5-6c when I got up a bit before 6am but today it’s a clear blue sky & we’re heading to a lovely sunny 25c. Perfect for mowing the lawns but I’m not sure they will get done or not, it all depends on how my day goes.
I’m meeting my friend in just over an hour for a walk around the river which I’m really looking forward to. I’ve also heard from my niece who lives in Perth that she & her husband are here for 10days visiting her Mum, my sister & to get some much needed jobs done around the house & legal stuff sorted. So I’ll be visiting them maybe this afternoon, maybe tomorrow - all depends. I also really want to get some potting mix as well so have a number of things I can choose to do. First up though, a shower to get ready for the walk.
Have a wonderful #Thursday everyone, hope you all have an awesome & happy day 🌻. #Weather #Exercise #Family #Garden.

Slopopedia is a slow-o-pedia

Famously, the “wiki” part in the name “wikipedia” came from a Hawaiian term for “quick”, with roots in a 1995 user-editable website called WikiWikiWeb. While Wikipedia’s collaborative approach can seem bureaucratic, articles can change quickly and obvious errors on high traffic pages typically are corrected within a few hours or in some cases. minutes.

So how about “Grokipedia”? A week ago I wrote about the very obvious errors in the Sad Puppy page https://camestrosfelapton.wordpress.com/2025/10/30/vibes-not-facts/ Some of the errors were relatively minor but some were substantial errors of basic, undisputed facts. Most notably, it got the history of Sad Puppies 2 very badly mangled and the whole section was entitled “Brad Torgersen’s 2014 and Later Efforts”, while claiming it was Brad who ran Sad Puppies 2.

This was not the only issue with the article which is poorly sourced and has an emphasis on uncritically repeating opinions. However, the real test of an online encylopedia is not whether a page has errors but whether those errors get fixed.

My previous post highlighted two glaring errors, one large one (Sad Puppies 2 was not led by Brad Torgersen) and one more minor: the 2015 Rabid Puppies slate did not include “Edward M. Lerner’s Slow Bullets for Best Novella” which a car crash of mistakes (confusing two different authors, two different years and two different categories).

It has been seven days. This particular page got a lot of attention from critics of the Sad Puppies as well as key Sad Puppy figures like Larry Correia and Vox Day. The site also has a system for pointing out errors. If you are logged in and highlight any text on the page, you are given the options of Copy, Ask Grok or Suggest Edit. I’m not going to provide free labour to Elon Musk, so I haven’t suggested an edit but I’m curious if anybody else has?

Either way, the article still contains all the same problems as of 5:48 am 6/11/2025 Sydney time, the article still has these claims:

  • “Brad Torgersen, a science fiction author and U.S. Army Reserve chief warrant officer, led the Sad Puppies 2 campaign in 2014” – actually 2015 Sad Puppies 3
  • “the campaign mobilized approximately 350 supporters to nominate recommended titles, focusing on commercially successful but allegedly overlooked authors like Kevin J. Anderson, with the goal of demonstrating broader fan participation beyond Worldcon attendees” – again possibly true about Sad Puppies 3 but here it is claiming this was Sad Puppies 2.
  • “Edward M. Lerner’s Slow Bullets for Best Novella” Edward M. Lerner’s “Championship B’tok” was a Sad & Rabid nominee in 2015 for Best Novelette. In 2016 Alastair Reynolds’ “Slow Bullets” was a Rabid Puppies nominee for Best Novella.
  • In the Dragon Awards section of the Sad Puppies page: “The inaugural awards favored titles resonant with Sad Puppies tastes, such as Correia’s Son of the Black Sword securing Best Fantasy Novel and Jim Butcher’s The Cinder Spires: The Aeronaut’s Windlass taking Best Science Fiction Novel”: As pointed out by Doris in the comments to my earlier post it was John C. Wright who won Best Science Fiction.Jim Butcher’s book lost to Larry Correia’s book in the Best Fantasy section.

None of these are controversial facts, they are all easy to check online and the websites that the Slopopedia page already cites have between them this information. A basic fan-wiki would probably have fixed these errors already and Wikipedia would have fixed them in minutes on a page getting this level of attention.

As I said, I’m not going to make any effort to fix this page but out of morbid curiosity, I did “ask Grok” about the errors. It told me:

“As a potentially low-traffic or automated wiki (the site appears inaccessible or down as of now, suggesting it could be a niche or defunct project), pages like this often suffer from unchallenged edits, lack of citations, or algorithmic content generation that prioritizes patterns over precision. No edit history is publicly evident, but similar errors appear in other fan wikis”

Good point Grok.
