Sitting in a hospital room waiting for my spouse to come back from scans and tests, distracting myself by attaching records to profiles in the Family Search Family Tree, and filling out dates and places in their preferred format ...

Pretty sure that location is NOT Connecticult.

Or IS the devil in the details?

As of 2026, PrenticeNet is 30 years old!

In 1996 my father and I set up our initial website as a gathering place for Prentice/Prentiss/Prentis/etc genealogical and historical information all over the world. I plan to be more active here on Mastodon going forward. If you have Prentice info of any kind, please share!

Great Uncle or Aunt? No .. IMHO, it's Grand, not Great! :-)

Here's my logic ..

Your grandfather's brother is your granduncle, and your great-grandfather's brother is your great-granduncle. If you think about it like that, it makes perfect sense, no? I know a lot of people use "great uncle" .. but that just doesn't scale, would you use great-great uncle?

Taking it the other way around, your brother's grandson, is your grandnephew (not greatnephew).

@HeatherRojo unrelated to my other post, it looks like we have a lot of similar interests, particularly #Scouting & #genealogy. I’ve got some pretty deep roots including #Buffington who signed the West Jersey Compact. At least one direct ancestor was also in the Revolution, too. I’m still trying to connect my various ancestors across the ocean - the tended to have not-unique names from Ireland & England. Ancestry DNA is helping me make headway though.

Started a new #FamilyHistory project in my database and going to be putting my individuals in again using ORA to speed things up and for consistency. OnIy 2000+ individuals to do. Need to get a crack on. #Genealogy #geneadon #FamilyHistory

My "Show and Tell" profile for this week's 100 Days of #Appalachia on #WikiTree is one of my favorites for the US Southern Colonies Project.

Mordecai Sheftall was the highest ranking Jewish Officer in the Revolutionary War. He went from successful businessman to losing it all because of the war. He was a lot of fun researching through old diaries and notes.

Read his story at:

When you're on Ancestry, do you ever:
* Swear that someone else *must* have changed your tree (even though you know that's not possible)?

* Think that people are missing from your tree or that they "somehow" got disconnected from other people in your tree?

* Accept Hints from other people's trees, or maybe you used to do so, early on?

There's a good chance you have duplicates in your tree, and you might not even realize it.

A lot of Genealogists have been having problems with a glitch in Ancestry, where it creates duplicates of people already in their trees. Here's how to fix the problem now, in the easiest way possible, and how to avoid it in the future.

Do NOT delete the duplicates! This can mess up relationships in your tree, and cause you to lose sources & hint matches. Instead, try this…

Dealing with Ancestry’s “Duplicates” Glitch

If you use Ancestry’s online trees, you will inevitably run across their glitch of creating duplicates for various people in your tree. But don’t worry, and do NOT simply delete any dup…

It is that kind of Wednesday with #genealogy

I know sand boxes are a way to parse out fact from fiction but I really dislike creating them. They are so time consuming trying to convince others why it was needed in the first place.

As a ProGen, it was extremely challenging convincing people that #DNA #ethnicity reporting can actually hinder research. But with very little paper trails, #family #folklore and #stories change from fiction to fact. Aaagh.
