The misty hollows and ridge-top farms of Appalachia sheltered families for generations โ€” and their stories are woven into one of America's most distinctive regional cultures. Whether your ancestors came through the Great Wagon Road, settled the Blue Ridge, or farmed the coal country of West Virginia and Kentucky, those mountain connections run deep.

Do you have Appalachian roots? Where from โ€” and any surprising connections you've uncovered?

Share your story and join the conversation on WikiTree's G2G community forum. You might even find cousins you never knew you had! ๐ŸŒฟ

Also, be sure to check out the WikiTree Appalachia Project, and join a live chat this Thursday or Saturday for Appalachian Research Get-to-Know parties.

#3GoodThings

1. Sharing family photos with a newly discovered first cousin through #AncestryResearch
2. A fine dinner with my family
3. Settling in to watch "It's a Wonderful Life"

I found this pic with my Step Grandpa on my Mom's side, he's on the far right, from while he was in the Navy. I found it linked to him on someone else's Ancestry tree while going through photo hints. His service start date shows March 27, 1945, so final months of WW2 & only a 23-24 year old young man in that picture. The package on the table on the left is for Edgeworth Tobacco, popular brand at the time & we are pretty sure those are bottles of Golden Glow beer #VeteransDay #AncestryResearch

Actually, #Blackstone bought #AncestryCom back in 2020. The latest news on the subject is:

" #Blackstone Inc. defeated a proposed class action alleging that its $4.7 billion acquisition of Ancestry.com resulted in the disclosure of protected genetic information of #Ancestry users, in violation of the #IllinoisGeneticInformationPrivacyAct." [Bloomberg Law News, 01 May 2023]

They originally tried to leverage that data when #Covid first hit.

Itโ€™s the little things that happen in a corner somewhere that end up being more important for all of us than we realize at the time. Iโ€™m betting this is one of those things. A company cโ€ฆ
