Just booted my OpenBSD ThinkPad for the first time in a long while. I keep plugging it in on a schedule to keep the battery from draining completely BUT today I noticed that for some reason it's not actually charging correctly from the back. It only charges on the dock. Weird?! Anyone had that before? Broken power plug? Messed up battery settings? #ThinkPad #x230 #battery

Solution in #nixos #flake for machine ThinkPad #x230 seems to be:
services.xserver.enable = true;
services.displayManager.gdm.enable = true;
services.desktopManager.gnome.enable = true;
services.desktopManager.gnome.flashback.enableMetacity = true;
# At the GDM login screen, click the gear # icon to choose between:
# - "GNOME" (Wayland)
# - "GNOME Flashback (Metacity)" #X11
and
nixos-rebuild boot + reboot is required (not switch) when jumping across major nixpkgs versions

I am trying to update my #nixos flake and discover that #x11 is not supported by the latest #gnome but I also know that some of my hardware (#HPelitedesk800 , VM machines running xrdp and x11spice) fails to show correct windows under #wayland so this is very un-linuxy and I feel like a sort of macos hardware obsolescence vibe ... Or is #Xfce the new way forward here for the good old tech? Thinkpad #x230 once failed with fifo underrun on pipe B when running wayland

Da war ich glücklich, ein günstiges X230 mit IPS-Display gefunden zu haben, und dann sieht man bei einem hellen Hintergrund in dem Display auch Fehler. 🫤
Jetzt habe ich also die Wahl zwischen einem vertikalen Streifen auf dem alten Display oder leichten Wolken auf dem anderen.

Sometimes—when it's on your own terms—leaning in to stereotypes can be fun. For example, I am writing this post with the #emacs client for mastodon on a #thinkpad #x230 laptop running #archlinux :P

Memes aside, these old thinkpads really are good laptops. This one has served me well for many years

@HiddenLayer555 This has been the bane of my life on nixos. I use
services.xserver.displayManager.gdm.autoSuspend = false;
to try to stop the suspending which works totally on my #x230 . I realise you are not using gnome but there might be a similar setting. This setting does not prevent a log-in screen appearing on my desktop machine HP EliteDesk 800 G1 and for that I bought a mouse wiggler in frustration https://amzn.eu/d/08n7oW3 which does the job. I even disable upower on non-laptops.
