Conservative Party nearly ran out of money, says Badenoch

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch says donors could have walked away following the party's worst ever election defeat.

The reality, of course, is three advocates of small-state libertarianism (oh, how the #UKConservatives have fallen) plus one mousey #UKLabour minister lined up against the mild social democracy of #ZackPolanski on #BBCQT - fair play to him, I hope he sleeps well tonight, he did a good job

Interesting that most of Starmer's setup questions are targeted towards #ReformUK rather than #UKConservatives

The Tory leadership election has become even more farcical with the surprise loss of James Cleverly. If only there were a better way to select a winner than first past the post or rounds of voting.*

* There is. It's called Single Transferable Vote / Ranked Preference Voting.

Cock-up, rather than conspiracy, the likely cause of Cleverly’s surprise exit

Law of unintended consequences more likely to have played key role in Tory leadership election

#PollyToynbee's #Guardian article on the persistence of #Thatcherism in the #UKConservatives makes a good read. But: is the inability to admit and learn from obvious past mistakes unique to the right? It's a fair question - is it inherent in politics?

Beaten, marooned, demoralised – and yet still the right clings to Thatcher. I’ve seen them: they’re so lost

I went to a conference of rightwing pollsters and party grandees. It seems their only way forward is to look back, says Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee

“I think the Conservative party is surrendering for at least a generation, possibly for ever, its once held position as the natural party of government, the party of the middle classes, the home counties, of business.”

In lamenting the decline of the Tories, David Gauke gives away that they were never the party of all of England - let alone the UK.

From humiliation to annihilation: could this election mean the end of the Tory party as we know it?

Even before the events of last week, the party’s prospects were grim. Now some believe it faces a wipeout that would reshape the UK political landscape

BBC #Newsnight talk about Arabs taking over the Spectator, and the apoplexy among #UKConservatives about a foreign interest in UK media.

BBC Newsnight don't mention that 80% of UK press is owned by foreign tax avoiders such as US citizen Rupert Murdoch, the Barclay brothers in (Jersey) and Lord Rothermere (who is resident in France).

I'm not sure how much this is right with racism or self interest.

BBC #Newsnight panel on #JermemyHunt's budget get near the issue but miss some key points.

They talk of Tory tax cuts when the Tories are raising taxes overall, and cutting services at the same time.

They ignore that half the money spent the cut to NI, is going to the richest 20% (while frozen tax allowances take money from everyone).

#RishiSunak and #KierStarmer have their pause.

Which means they will welcome Israel resuming its mass murder of Palestinian children, and other innocent civilians so long as the pause last a few days. 👏

Meanwhile Israel has murdered civilians trying to return to their homes during the so-called truce.

#UKLabour and #UkConservatives are guilty of aiding #WarCrimes and #genocide by #Israel in #Gaza.
