Today is the Trans Day of Remembrance, and I am filled with varying emotions. On one hand, I am incredibly saddened by the amount of violence, fear, hatred, and discrimination that me, my friends, and my family face on a daily basis. But on the other hand, I find this day beautifully poignant, because it gives us a chance to reflect on the people we’ve lost over time, something that needs to be done more often, especially in the face of this amount of adversity and hatred purported by society.

So let's celebrate and mourn the friends and family we’ve lost in our community over the last year, and let’s look forward to a future where we won't face the issues we face today, where we can be ourselves without fear. When that day comes, we will finally be free…
