A few weeks back, someone on the Minnesota subreddit posted that Governor Walz was the keynote speaker at the ESRI UC (a data-y and nerdy conference, I learned!) and even though he was up against huge industry players he was the crowd’s favorite. Damned if I didn’t watch the entire 30 minute lecture on… geography and maps??? https://mediaspace.esri.com/media/t/1_d2sqkrju

Today is the Trans Day of Remembrance, and I am filled with varying emotions. On one hand, I am incredibly saddened by the amount of violence, fear, hatred, and discrimination that me, my friends, and my family face on a daily basis. But on the other hand, I find this day beautifully poignant, because it gives us a chance to reflect on the people we’ve lost over time, something that needs to be done more often, especially in the face of this amount of adversity and hatred purported by society.

So let's celebrate and mourn the friends and family we’ve lost in our community over the last year, and let’s look forward to a future where we won't face the issues we face today, where we can be ourselves without fear. When that day comes, we will finally be free…

This article is a thrilling read. But not a good thrill. This is a thrill that chills you deep to your core, a thrill that makes you sad, angry, and confused. A thrill that shows those who may not understand our struggles what WE have to deal with on a daily, no, hourly basis. I recommend this piece to all those people out there that think, “ It’s not our problem! We’re not even being affected by this!” You’re wrong, you think that the Republican Party is going to stop at us?! They won’t stop until everything they deem “woke” is ash, buried underfoot, out of sight, out of mind.

Are recent racist and transphobic moves by state legislatures in Montana, Tennessee and Nebraska a trend?

I’m getting really tired of waking up every day, and immediately thinking, “Oh great, what horrible atrocities have been committed against people like me today?” At this point I’m not even getting surprised or shocked at anything that happens in the US around my rights as a human being. Every single day there’s another attack on me or another person decrying my very existence. It’s starting to take its toll on me, and I just can’t stay in this country any longer than I have to.

What, why is the character limit now 1024 instead of 500? Am I the only person experiencing this? Is this an error or an actual new feature? I guess I’ll find out soon enough

I was looking for jobs near where I probably will go to college, and this is where the FULL weight of the ableism of car ownership finally sank in. Pretty much everything I looked at that fit my skills and experience REQUIRES a drivers license, something I cannot get because of my disabilities. I mean, I can ride my bike at a pretty consistent 15-18 mph, more than enough to get across town in less than 20 minutes, and yet they want a license for a part-time housekeeper. Society makes no sense
@astronomybot where is the ISS?

People confuse etymology with entomology all of the time.

I have no words for how much that bugs me.

Oh no, who do I root for in tomorrows match, Chelsea or Liverpool? I love both teams who do I go for?
