New American raid against Tehran. The response of the Pasdaran: ‘US base hit’

The U.S. military shot down four drones launched by Iran in the night and struck a control center in the port city of Bandar Abbas, according to U.S. media reports on Wednesday evening, citing anonymous sources. The attack on Bandar Abbas prevented the launch of a fifth drone, according to CNN and the New York Times, and followed those that the U.S. military had described as “self-defense” attacks launched in the night between Monday and Tuesday against Iranian missile sites and mine-hunters.

A military site in Iran was hit.

“Today, U.S. forces in the Central Command downed four single-use Iranian attack drones that posed a threat in the Strait of Hormuz,” the official said, speaking anonymously.

“U.S. forces also struck an Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas that was about to launch a fifth drone,” the official added. The new attacks came just days after a U.S. military attack against several missile sites and mine-hunters in the same area, which U.S. officials had described at the time as a “self-defense” action.

Those attacks were seen as a significant test of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, but ultimately did not lead to a resumption of large-scale fighting. On Wednesday, the U.S. official described the latest actions as “measured, purely defensive, and aimed at maintaining the ceasefire.”

Iran’s Response

Iranian forces opened fire on four vessels attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz, according to the state broadcaster Irib, on the same day that Washington launched new attacks in southern Iran.

“Four vessels attempted to transit the Strait of Hormuz and enter the Persian Gulf without coordinating with security forces,” Irib wrote on Telegram, specifying that the incident occurred around 00:35 local time (21:05 GMT on Wednesday), but without providing details about the vessels.

“They were warned, but after ignoring the warning, warning shots were fired at them, forcing them to return,” it added.

Pasdaran Target US Base

“The Revolutionary Guard Iranian forces targeted a U.S. base in retaliation for the U.S. attacks in the south of the country,” according to the state Iranian broadcaster Irib.

“Following this morning’s aggression by U.S. military forces against a location on the outskirts of the Bandar Abbas airport, using aerial projectiles, the U.S. air base from which the attack originated was targeted at 4:50 am (01:20 GMT),” the Pasdaran said, according to Irib.

No details were provided on the location of the base, although Kuwait, a U.S. ally, said it responded to the missile and drone attacks on Thursday morning.

Rubio: “The Strait of Hormuz will be open, in one way or another”

AGI - The enriched uranium that Donald Trump calls “nuclear dust” will be delivered “immediately” by Iran to the United States “to be returned home and destroyed.” This was stated by the American president in a post on Truth, specifying however that Washington is ready to evaluate an alternative solution “preferable, in collaboration and coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran”: the destruction of the material directly in Iran “or in another acceptable location,” with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission – and not the IAEA – present as witness to the process.

The Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), recalled by Trump, is the U.S. government agency historically responsible for overseeing the development of atomic energy in peacetime, distinct from international bodies such as the United Nations Atomic Energy Agency.

U.S. Attacks on Iranian Sites and Vessels Near the Strait of Hormuz

In parallel with the nuclear dossier, military tensions in the Persian Gulf area remain high. The U.S. military has conducted “self-defense” attacks against Iranian missile launch sites and vessels in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported by CNN citing the U.S. Central Command (Centcom).

Spokesperson Timothy Hawkins confirmed that the operations were carried out “to protect our troops from the threats posed by Iranian forces,” despite the ceasefire currently in effect and ongoing negotiations to end the war. According to information gathered, the targets included Iranian means attempting to lay mines in the strategic waters of the strait.

“The Central Command continues to defend U.S. forces by maintaining moderation during the ceasefire,” Hawkins clarified.

Rubio: “The Strait of Hormuz will be open, in one way or another”

From India, where he is on an official visit, U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio reiterated Washington’s line on freedom of navigation: “The Strait will be open in one way or another. It must be, because what is happening there is illegitimate, unsustainable and unacceptable for the world.”

A statement that confirms the American determination to prevent Tehran from maintaining restrictions on maritime traffic in one of the planet’s most crucial energy routes.

Diplomatic Glimmers: “An agreement is still possible”

Despite the new attacks, Rubio allows cautious optimism about the possibility of an agreement with Tehran to filter through. “New talks took place today in Qatar, we will see if we are able to make progress,” he told reporters.
