Accolto dagli applausi degli studenti, questa mattina Papa Leone XIV si è recato all’Università Sapienza di Roma. Una visita molto attesa, durante la quale il Santo Padre, per nulla intimorito dalle critiche dell’amministrazione americana, che mal tollera i continui appelli alla pace in Medio Oriente, ha tenuto un lungo discorso senza fare alcun passo indietro, rinnovando il suo invito a far tacere le armi.
“Nell’ultimo anno la spesa militare nel mondo è cresciuta enormemente, soprattutto in Europa. Non si chiami difesa un riarmo che aumenta tensioni e insicurezze, che depaupera gli investimenti in educazione e sanità e che smentisce la fiducia nella diplomazia”. È quanto dichiarato dal Pontefice che, nel pieno del suo mandato, continua a promuovere il dialogo e a mettere in guardia il mondo intero dalla deriva bellicista degli ultimi tempi.

Secondo Leone XIV, “occorre vigilare sullo sviluppo e sull’applicazione dell’intelligenza artificiale in ambito militare e civile, affinché non aggravino ulteriormente la tragicità dei conflitti”. Proprio per questo, rivolgendosi agli studenti in festa, ha aggiunto: “L’invito che faccio a tutti voi è questo: lavoriamo insieme, siamo tutti costruttori di pace”.
“È dai rapporti tra amici, dalle parole e dal modo di pensare che può nascere la pace. Abbiate sempre fiducia nella possibilità di costruire un mondo nuovo”, ha concluso il Santo Padre.

“In the last year, military spending in the world has grown enormously, especially in Europe. What is called defense is not a rearmament that increases tensions and insecurities, depletes investment in education and healthcare, and denies confidence in diplomacy.” This is what the Pontiff declared, in the full of his term, continuing to promote dialogue and warning the whole world about the bellicistic drift of recent times.

According to Leo XIV, “we must monitor the development and application of artificial intelligence in military and civilian areas, so that it does not further exacerbate the tragedy of conflicts.” Precisely for this reason, addressing the celebrating students, he added: “The invitation I make to all of you is this: let us work together, we are all builders of peace.”
“Peace is born from friendships, from words and from the way of thinking. Always have faith in the possibility of building a new world,” concluded the Holy Father.
