On Saturday evening, we will hear a presentation by Lacey Artermis, a musician and video producer with over 20 years of experience. As someone with sensory issues, she learned that comfort is all about balance. She used audio production concepts as a bridge into building a comprehensive sensory accessibility model called SOLACE.

Many autistic people intuitively understand sensory overload, but it can be hard to explain why some environments feel unbearable while others feel fine. This workshop uses music as a shared metaphor to explore sensory experience across sound, light, movement, temperature, and more. The session includes optional reflection prompts and practical ideas for small, realistic tweaks to everyday spaces, similar to a micro comfort-coaching session. Participation is flexible, and listening quietly is also welcome.

My sister texted me today asking if I have a wish list for my birthday on December 3. Usually, I get gift cards, socks, or other random things because no one knows what to get me. But this year, I'm prepared! I've been using a site called Chestr to create a wish list. It's not perfect—there are some accessibility issues—but it's usable.

I’ve been adding things all year, and now my list has nearly 50 items, from tech gadgets to fidget toys and puzzles. The fidget toys and puzzles are a favorite since I'm autistic, sometimes bedbound, and need things to do with my hands that provide sensory stimulation and keep me engaged. Hopefully, this makes gift shopping easier for my family this time around! 🎉🎁

"Every Saturday, [Christchurch’s Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre] hosts a two-hour Sensory Swimming session at the Learn to Swim pool within the facility.

The pool is closed off from the busier main pool, there is no music, and the lights are dimmed. It’s a smaller space, with a maximum of 25 people allowed. Sensory toys and equipment are also available for the swimmers."

@astro_jcm I am Autistic and I have visual processing problems, or, as I like to call it, "Ooh! It's a picture of a blue! No, there's white specks... Oh! A red patch! Oh it's ... the SpaceX rocket, pre-deconstruction... of course.". ... or, A boat on the ocean, or Spiderman. See the problem?

Now, imagine that, but the pictures MOVE! *sigh*

Found a new #tool to help one of my #kids. A cheap couch throw pillow, about the size of her torso, to hug and squish when needed. It has been a night and day difference in her ability to sit nicely at the carpet in #kindergarten without rolling into other people's boundaries. She doesn't like pressure applied to her (no weighted blankets etc), but she NEEDS to apply pressure to things/people. Such an easy solution! And kinder to her friends to not be crush-hugged without consent. #SensoryNeeds

@simid @librarianknight @actuallyautistic This. I am fascinated by the discourse of other #Autistic people meeting their #SensoryNeeds ‘cos I can’t remember the last time mine were met.
It makes me feel so frazzled by the end of the day I could cry. I love my kids so much, wouldn’t change a thing but my need for silence & solitude is not compatible with a family! But if I didn’t have my family I would be so alone 🤷‍♀️
