Just yesterday I stumbled upon a Machimus robber fly, but it's unclear which species it is exactly. Caught it in the act of consuming a small solitary bee:

ID'd my first ever robber fly - Stenopogon inquinatus. I might have seen them before, but learning to observe is a different matter altogether.

And I'm intrigued to know whether these #RobberFlies (#Asilidae) have ribbed wings for the same reason.
I found a dead Beelzebub Bee-Eater (Mallophora leschenaulti) on the ground today! Poor bug has seen better days, but there's a remarkable new species for the life list.
