Got another pic of the nest in the tree being used as a granary for acorns. Fun-fact - Acorn Woodpeckers are cooperative breeders, multiple members share mates and other non-sexual members help with raising the chicks. The one outside the nest is clearly the male, which you can tell by the larger red “cap” on its head. The females have a smaller red cap. San Jose, California, May 2026.
