I saw some #rackmount 31 band EQs that have #MIDI that were made in the 80's and 90's. The ones currently in production do not. It feels like we've taken a step back. 🤨

Granted, there are two fantastic digital #effectsPedals that do and have more features than anything else. (Aside from the #Cranborne Carnaby he2 that has USB for #DAW control and saturates boosted frequency bands.)

*shrug*

On one… foot, I like the idea of *utilities* being in a rack. My other foot doesn't care and just wants to easily swap between presets.

One side of an SKB type 6U case. Still have to cram 2 midi delays, a midi matrix and maybe a midi display. It is a super tight fit because on the other side of the case I have 5 1U synths:
A Casio VZ8m, a Roland D110, a Roland MKS50, an Ensoniq SQR plus 32 and an Alesis QSR. Good for 142 notes polyphony if I can pull this off. Been rewiring trying to fit all of this for over an hour now

18-Slot Rackmount Chassis

I've been looking through my Docs folder at the PDF for so long I totally forgot which I was originally trying to find. 😵‍💫

Oh. I needed a reminder about what that #Behringer Ultramizer Pro rack unit does. It seems like a digital all utility piece.

I'm not sure why there aren't more of these because exactly what I want is one robust rack unit that handles gating, limiting, compression, equalizing, stereo widening, and tuning because why not. lol. With #MIDI. The point of #rackmount gear is that it is more powerful than pedals.

A Petabyte NAS Using Consumer-Grade Parts

Self-hosting a few services on one’s own hardware is a great way to wrest some control over your online presence while learning a lot about computers, software, and networking. A common entry…

EDIT: It has been spoken for!

Free to a good home: A Mac G4 in a Marathon rackmount case. It has a serial port, Zip drive, SCSI card, and two DIMMs of RAM. We forgot to take the PRAM battery out, but fortunately it didn't leak. 😅
It's up for grabs to anyone who wants to pay the shipping. 📦

10#-32 cagenuts go in the box of SHAME! #rackmount

@dragonarchitect @demicus AFAIK they explicitly removed #WiFi from #Proxmox (which is based off #Debian) because they only target #rackmount|able-hardware and consider WiFi & #Bluetooth as mere 'sidechannel attack vectors'

  • One could just get one of those cheap WiFi->Ethernet bridges if wired etherenet cabling isn't an option as a workaround.

Obviously their take makes sense in a #datacenter envoirment (pretty shure #vmware #ESXi and #Microsoft's #HyperV don't do WiFi either!) because homelabbers who can't even afford cheap Gigabit-#Ethernet ain't their customer audience.

  • OFC that is annoying for those who don't have that luxury at hand!

New #homelab project: a frankenserver for #NAS workload. My first #rackmount build! Super exciting!
Got a #Supermicro server in 2U 12 bay case, but a dual Xeon board in it is too power-hungry for my modest NAS needs. Got an Atom C3000 based Supermicro board - the current task at hand is to swap the boards and figure out cabling.
