Tonight I’m thinking about the delicious barbecues various parishioners would hold on or near the Fourth of July.

It was such a nice assortment of grilled meat and vegetables, salads (which might have been potato, fruit, jello, fruit and jello, or lettuce), sweets, ect.

If I had a house, I’d buy a grill and throw my own barbecue this summer.

I liked this time of year when I was a kid.

It was quiet. Nearly all of the special church services and events for the holiday season were finished, so dad would be around all the time unless a parishioner fell ill or something.

Our family generally stayed home a lot the last week of the year which also made my little introverted self very happy as I puttered around in the kitchen searching for tasty leftovers.

A childhood memory popped up tonight, so it’s story time.

You should know that I was a quiet, calm preacher’s kid who followed the rules. I knew exactly how my parents expected me to behave in public (especially at church!), and I obeyed them 99.999% of the time.
