Polhill—Anglican Calvinist—observes inhumanity in his era exceeded what existed before Christ arrived to deliver a Lecture of Love. The Incarnation provided two things: a renewed command to love, and a new motive—God giving his Son. Deriving neighborly ethics from orthodox Christology is precisely what Polhill does. Fewer orthodox pastors today would describe the Incarnation’s purpose that way.

In my morning prayers today, I had some thoughts about the Bible, the politics of the Psalms and Proverbs, and how it is that MAGA and I can read the same Bible but come away with very different views.

Hmmm … It seems #WesStreeting is openly #Anglican

Good for him.

But … ?

I don’t like the idea that a potential #PrimeMinister is religious.

Just on principle, I’m comfier *not* have religious belief being a factor in a leader’s decisions.

I had no idea, until just now, that it's normal for Catholics to receive communion in a line now, that there's no altar rail, and to handle the bread themselves. It seems very odd to someone who's used to Anglican churches (albeit some time ago) where altar rails and the host being placed on the tongue were normal.

It's not a theological thing (I am so not the right person to be theological), it's just that the default "aesthetics" of Anglicanism are that they're a kind of middling in a line between Catholicism and Evangelicalism.

Blessed Feast of the Ascension to those who celebrate. Today the Western Church concludes the Easter celebrations by commemorating Christ Jesus’ ascent into the presence of the Father, completing the work of the Incarnation by bringing human nature into Heaven. A bookend to His conception, where God’s nature was brought to earth.

Today we will be discussing the ever-present sign of the cross in Christianity. If you've ever wondered why we Christians make such a big deal out of the instrument upon which Jesus was killed, then this installment is for you.

We go live at 2:30 Hawai'i time (but can be watched whenever after that)

Amazing Grace: St. Kitts and the Turning Point of a Complicated Legacy

Long before abolition, Amazing Grace was written by a former slave ship captain. This piece reveals how St. Kitts shaped John Newton’s transformation and influenced the movement that helped end the British slave trade in 1807.
