Intro: Just working out this Mastodon thing. As a geologist by training I’m kind of curious about the name and why you would call a social network after a extinct megafauna? A bit about me - I mostly work on oceans and their link to climate through the carbon cycle. I study plankton and biogeochem of the modern ocean, and sediments and isotopes of dead plankton to study the past. I go to sea on large research vessels. I teach oceanography and climate science at an Aus uni.
