My love of #OceanLiners extends to the odd ones, like #Soviet liner #MikhailLermontov, which was launched in 1970 for the Atlantic run but converted into a #CruiseShip. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1986, in harbour & under command of a #NewZealand pilot, she was run aground and sunk.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1967, the Atlantic greyhound #RMSQueenMary arrived in my home town of #LongBeach, CA, to begin her new life as a hotel. Growing up in the shadow of the #QueenMary was great for an autistic nerdy kid who loved the #OceanLiners! I still enjoy visiting her.

Whitehall Building, Aquarium and Battery Park, New York City
"Battery Park faces New York Harbor, being the Southern end of Manhattan Island. The Aquarium formerly known as Castle Garden Fort, contains a complete collection of fish, sea turtles and other deep sea animals. The Whitehall Building is the nearest skyscraper to the Harbor, the new addition rising to a height of 32 stories, 416 feet. The remnants of the Stenen Hoofd (the Stone Head). This used to be a large stone pier for the ships operated by the Holland-Amerika line, transporting passengers to the USA. Completely derelict now, and one of the few places in the city which won't be developed. Very quiet; I love it there.
