#HMHSBritannic was launched on #ThisDayInHistory in 1914. Meant to serve as #RMSBritannic on the North Atlantic #OceanLiner service, and built as a larger, safer sister ship to #RMSTitanic & #RMSOlympic, she worked instead as a hospital ship until sunk by a mine in the Aegean.
The library in #Chorlton was delayed as the plans (to be personally approved by Andrew Carnegie) were lost onboard the #RMSTitanic

A cold, bright start to the new year with plenty of light making its way into the back room so we could complete the cheapy jigsaw we picked up in a Poundstretcher last week.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1985, the wreck of #RMSTitanic was found on the sea floor, 13 miles from where she was expected to be. Famous these days largely because of her sinking, I confess I was captivated by the haunting images of her returned by Bob Ballard's visits to the site.

The impressive entrance hall and main staircase in John B. Wilson's 1907 Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders in Scotland (now occupied by Scottish Opera), featuring some rather wonderful stained glass by Stephen Adam. Just to the right of the staircase is a memorial to the engineers of the RMS Titanic, which sank on its maiden voyage in 1912. All 36 of the engineers who worked on board died in the disaster.
